Just wondering.

I've heard of some taking it with a spoonful of vegetable oil.

My dr. said that a patient of his found that 2 slices of cheese worked well.

Both of those sound gross to me. What does everyone else eat with it?

Almonds, almond butter, olives, goat cheese, avocado or fish oil.

I take Mepron with a meal and am sure the meal has fat -- cheese, coconut oil, etc.

The morning dose is the hardest because I like fruit in the morning and not much else. So, I have a bowl of frozen raspberries with fresh whipping cream (organic whipping cream whipped with my hand blender). The whipping cream has plenty of fat.

Hey, Vanilla, I've heard that almonds/almond butter aren't good with abx - something about lessening the efficacy of the meds. You might want to check into it - I've seen posts on the board about that.

I take my Mepron with flax oil, peanut butter or extra-virgin olive oil. Actually, I coat my Flagyl in EVOO before swallowing it so I can't taste it, then I follow up with my Mepron. Fun, eh?! [Big Grin]

I first took malarone with poonfuls of peanut butter, or a chunk of cheese, or a handful of nuts in mid-afternoon. After gaining like 5 pounds that first couple of months, I started to take it after dinner. A doctor friend told me that it was not necessary to take malarone with a large amount of fat, even just half a glass of milk would do!

Vermont,

This may be a dumb question, but does it have to be whole milk?

I am also concerned about weight gain from too much nut butters, nuts and cheese with Malarone.

Thanks!
Aviva

Hi Viva,

Yes, it has to have some fat -- so I would use either whole milk or at least 2% milk! Definitely, do not take it with no-fat milk.

I really packed on a few pounds quite quickly taking the malarone with peanut butter, nuts and cheese. So if you can take it right after dinner or lunch (assuming there is some fat in the meal), or with a half-glass of milk, I have been told by a doctor that is enough!

Mepron made me so tired I could hardly move, so I took it w/ whatever fatty thing was the quickest to grab - cheese was a favorite - but u said that didn't appeal to u. Peanut butter on a bannana was also a reg 1. Also cream cheese on a bannana worked. And yes, sometimes a "bad" snack - like cookies, or a tastykake. (I know, I know....but it sure did help the medicine go down, lol)

I was never able to take it w/ just milk, had to have actual food w/ it...

My LLMD specifically mentioned almond butter as being a good thing to take Mepron with.

I stopped taking with almonds because of research showing that despite their fat content, almonds actually block fat absorption. (Google 'almond fat absorption' for info.)

I take 2 smart oil pills at breakfast and dinner as thats when I take malerone . I don't take the pills to help the malerone, I take it to combat the bad fat in my meals . (lol) Tastycakes , must be from Phili huh Gardenlymer . [Wink]

Any more thoughts on the almonds with ABX combination? Hubby has been eating almonds to try to add some weight. First I've heard about the problem with ABX and almonds ??

Thanks!

I don't know if the fat requirement for Malarone is the same as Mepron, but it's 23 gms for Mepron.

I just posted this on another thread and I'm REALLY tired, so I hope you don't mind if I just copy & paste. [Roll Eyes]

GSK - Mepron Info

I believe there may be some threads on this here. (not sure what they're called though. Sorry. [Frown] )

I was fortunate and not allergic, a lot of times a "golf ball" of nut butter on a slice of bread got me by. I've also gagged down 2 Tbsp. butter on a slice of toast. It was sooooo hard to do in the am. [Roll Eyes]

I would use celery or leaves of lettuce to get the dressing down with a small dinner.

I had a big problem with loss of appetite and the mere thought of eating made me want to gag. I also had no idea just how relatively low-fat my diet had become even without consciously avoiding it.

Good luck with the malarone, hope it works for you!

Dear Lauren,

I take four malarone a day.

In the morning I take it with whole milk.

Then I take one with lunch.

In the afternoon I try to take it with peanut butter or a handful of nuts.

I sometimes cheat and take mine with a Reese's peanut butter cup.

Then I take my last one with dinner.

I am not a cheese person.

Hugs,

Geneal
