Us Lymies probably have twice as long REM since we sleep twice as much..but it seems lately, taking meprom and zithromax, ive been having very vivid dreams that seem like they last forever...and when i do wake up i suffer from extreme vertigo....I find it interesting..

Can be from Lyme but often vivid dreams are caused by Babesiosis!!!

I have always had vivid dreams so for me I am not going to blame it on the lyme or babs I have...

However sometimes when I get up directly after waking I get that woosh of lightheadedness.

I know there have been other posts in the past about dreams ... you could do a search using "dreams" ... I would search in medical.

best wishes

I also have the weird dreaming stuff -- I'm on Malarone for Babs. Normally, without Lyme, I have vivid, fun dreams. On Malarone I have scarey, intense dreams that are hard to wake from; the dreams are sort of depressing.

A friend of mine just came back from Equador. She said that taking Malarone is recommended if you travel in certain jungle/rain forest areas (where malaria is prevalent). She said without Lyme, Malarone can give "really psychotic dreams." (Not psychosis -- she was just sounding dramatic about intense dreams.) Anyway, she said travelers on Malarone commented on the weird dreams they'd been having.

Not fun, but this too shall pass...

Best to you,

Not everyone with lyme and co-infections sleep a long time. My brother and I are the opposite and have a lot of trouble sleeping and particularly getting REM sleep.

That said, mepron and zith seems to have increased my dreaming too. My dreams have often been vivid throughout my life but then I've been infected since I was 5 years old. As a child I had extremely vivid nightmares.

vivid dreaming is a general sign of diffuse organic brain disease. it is seen in lyme and babesia and has been reported in the medical literature wrt relapsing fever.

I've had a big prob with the dreams. I have repetitive vivid dreams...sometimes there will be months between dreams centering on same topic.

for example, for several years I have had a dream about being in a house that was rebuilt to include a very cool new second floor, but the builders did a terrible job and the wood supporting the 2nd floor rotted, so it had to be sealed off.

In the dream, I wander around the first floor of the house and spend my time scheming about how I am going to access the 2nd floor. It is so cool that I am wanting to go up there even though the wood is rotten and it is dangerous.

The house also has a secret basement which I am unable to find.

I'm sure there's a meaning behind this dream.

I have seen and have talked to quite a few people with lyme in which vivid dreams or "wierd" dreams occur during a bacteria die off, either drug induced or immune system prompted.

You will likely find that it stops after a while but it may very well come back for a day or two every time there is a flareup cycle. Alternatively when a new drug is started (ie. the zithromax) you may see this effect. From general concensus, it seems to take about 3 day after the new drug is started to see this effect.

How long have you been on the new regime?

I've been taking minocycline and quinine powder, and then last night I kicked in some zithromax.

Zithromax is clearing my ears, sinuses, and lungs out, so maybe it's because my brain was getting more oxygen.

But I had a lengthy, horrific nightmare last night and almost posted this thread myself. The detail was amazing and I woke up and obsessed over it, jotting down details so that I wouldn't forget. Then I got really depressed and started crying.

Basically, I dreamt that there was a tsunami in Phoenixville, but in my dream it appeared as if it was occurring in Pottstown - close to where my daughter lives.

I even had time to save a little girl. I don't know who she was, but I handed her to her father before I joined up with my daughter.

I also was desperate to save my pets and my daughter's, and for some reason my antibiotics needed saving, too! Do you think Lyme is on my mind in my sleep, too? lol

I would think this is a good sign though - I used to dream, but that stopped when whatever I have kicked in. I didn't feel rested though when I woke up, so I'm not sure how much REM sleep I was actually getting last night.

I'm curious though what significance my dream has because last year around this time I was seeing auras.

when i was young, pre-Lyme, I have vivid dreams and sletp well.

during Lyme, before I knew I had it, i wondered why i didn't dream anymore

during worst of Lyme, I had many sleepless nights, so no dreams, I simply couldn't sleep or sleep well

now that i'm on malarone for babs, even tho i tested negative for babs, i'm dreaming again, but altho not nightmares, they are disturbing

i'm sleeping better tho, so i'll live with the disturbing dreams...

I have been having nightmares since I started on babs treatment, but also slightly before that. I have been on IV zith for a long time and when I added the mino oral they first started.

Then they got worse when I added the mepron.

They seem to come and go throughout the course of this disease. I can't pinpoint one thing or medicine that triggers it the most.
