I am on 1000mg/daily of Fagyl along with the same amounts of Biaxin Xl and Ceftin. 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off of all abx's.
Ye Gads, this Flagyl (I can only assume it is the Flagyl, taken the other 2 before with no issues) has made me feel like dog poop left out in the sun to dry!
Ache, NO stamina, even my hands hurt to make a fist. I am on my 8th day, and I have felt this way since day 2 or 3.
Does it get easier each time you pulse the Flagyl?
I am leaving on a much deserved and needed vacation with the motorhome to Myrtle Beach this Saturday and am seriously considering stopping the Flagyl a little early, so I can at least feel like I did before hand.
The only other time I have felt this bad on abx's, is when I was on Sporanox for de-yeasting.

Flagyl is just kinda yucky!!! IMPORTANT: If you suddenly get VERY VERY VERY despressed, don't kill yourself- it is NOT you- it is you & Flagyl. I don't know the mechanism of why this happens but sometimes people with Lyme on Flagyl get sudden severe depression- be aware- yet another thing (besides taste- ugh!!) that is yucky re FlagyL!!!
I used to get these horrible massive headaches with light sensitivity to an excruciating degree with projectile vomiting attacks
when I went on Flagyl.
Felt much improved after I got off thougH*)!!!

Did not get to the point of depression, thank god. Not sure I could have handled that as well.
Seems like alot of people take Flagyl only several times a week or month.
I am going to have to speak with my Dr. on that one.

I actually also did not take my Flagyl this morning...just could not handle it. First ABX that I could not finish out...although Sporanox came in a close 2nd, but that was only for 7 days and I made it.

Happy to report that taking the Flagyl did get easier-I have pulsed twice-in early treatment-which caused me to absolutely Dread taking flagyl-and like you would try to plan it around acitivities.
LLMD not realy thrilled with this.
However-in the past few months I have pulsed again after a couple years treatment-2 weeks on/2 weeks off for three cycles-and by the thrid time I could hardly tell. Made me feel grwon up-finally being able to handle my flagyl.
PS- I also learned to dip it in olive oil before taking to avoid the awful taste.

Thanks Carol, I know I probably should not have stopped...but my god I never ever would have made it.
I will try very hard to stay on it the next pulse. I am usually very good about staying on the abx's,, no matter what.
I think sometimes we get overwhelmed and need a short break to re-group.
I have been very lucky as far as the taste. Somehow I just get a big ole mouthful of water, pop it in there and no problems. Once it got stuck and it was god awful tasting!

I too am pulsing flagyl 1000 mg two weeks on/two off. In addition to this I am doing Rocephin IV 2 grams daily. While on the flagyl I had severe loose stools. Is anyones else experiencing this???
I also notice that while off flagyl my brain fog rolls right on in and takes over again. It is very tough to take but I think the benefits outweigh not taking it.

I've also been on doxy,& erythromycin combine 2200mg a day.
It's hard for me to judge how my treatment is going.
some days I feel almost normal, other days I fill almost as ill as before starting abx.
by the time I return for my next check up I'll have been on this regiment for ten weeks.

I'm also doing Rocephin- 2 grams 2x daily. As for the loose stools- they seem to be so much a way of life for me-that I set up a portable pole in the bathroom-in case it hits me during an infusion. Posted by Cobweb (Member # 10053) on :
My LLMD is very strict about how much flagyl I do-sticking only to the 2 weeks on/2 weeks off for three cycles because of the side effects on gallbladder and neuropathy.
I was so proud I could finally tolerate it- and she stopped it! Oh well.
