Hey guys, I emailed the nice people at ARG about WHY I had to take ART on an empty stomach since there was research saying you didn't. I got a very nice reply which includes some good info on taking all 3 of their "lyme" supps, and what you can combine them with. It is a straight cut and paste except for removing email addys, so START FROM THE BOTTOM AND READ UP! **************************************************
Hi Valerie,
You will have to look up the iron content of different foods. Raisins may have a good amount of iron, for instance. Dairy such as yogurt has low or no iron. And yes, Dr. Rowen made a recommendation to take artemisinin with oils such as fish oils.
Prima Una de Gato should not be taken with artemisinin or food but on an empty stomach, whenever possible.
NanoTek Chitosan is a new product, and the suggested use is, take on an empty stomach. This is because chitosan can bind to fats and may reduce the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients.
The product has only a small amount of chitosan - most of it is chitosan oligosaccharide, which can be absorbed. So perhaps it can be taken around food by some. Officially though, it's best taken on an empty stomach, and this is likely to enhance the detoxification potential. Certainly for long-term use this is the safe way.
One other little observation that may or may not hold up for others: I think that the NanoTek Chitosan and Vitamin C work really well together. I take 1000 mg of C each time I take 1 capsule of NTC.
Thanks for the testimony! Do you mind if we use your quote, attributed to "V. Williams" (or however you like)? And sure, you can quote me if you want, about ARG products. However, I am not a doctor, nor do I have Lyme Disease, and most of the users of that board know more about LD than I do. Just so you know.
Sincerely, Daniel Milosevich, CN

Ahhh, Daniel, that makes much more sense to me. So my normal yogurt and fruit would be fine, but not an iron fortified cereal. I actually knew about the iron and antioxidants. It does make life complicated since I hate to be taking pills all day! I alsoforget to ask , is it okay to take the Una de Gato at the same time as the Arteminisin? How about the NanoTek Chitosan? I know about the Chitosan and fat absobstion. I have also heard taking the Una de Gato and/or Arteminisin WITH fat is beneficial. ARRRGH.
By the way, in 10 years of fighting Lyme with its concurrent Herxheimer reactions I have never found anything as good as the NanoTek Chitosan. It's allowed me to stay semi functional through my last course of Levaquin, Una de Gato and Arteminisin. Thank you!
Finally, would you mind if I posted your response to the Lymnet bulletin board? Thanks. Valerie ----- Original Message ----- From: Daniel Milosevich To: Sent: Monday, August 20, 2007 11:38 AM Subject: RE: Allergy Research Group: User filled in Contact Us form!
Hello Valerie,
Thank you for your inquiry. The suggested use for Artemisinin is not based on the idea that taking it before meals will increase absorption. It's based on the idea Artemisinin becomes active in the presence of iron, so generally speaking it is better not to take it with food in the stomach, as it may be activated by iron-containing foods.
However, the Suggested Use is just that, a suggestion. It's fine to take Artemisinin with food, as long as they are not iron-rich foods. It should not be taken with supplements containing iron, and antioxidants are taken at a different time of day for best results.
Also, artemisinin intake is almost always divided into 2 or 3 times per day, rather than once per day.
Sincerely, Daniel Milosevich, CN

In doing some research into Arteminisin I discoved a study that had been done on the bioavailability of Arteminisn depeding on whether it was taken with or without food. It indicates that taking it with food does not affect its bioavailability, specifically with the first meal of the day. Given that your instructions say to take it before meals unless you are "sensitive" to it, I was wondering if you had any research to jusitify this recommendation. The abstract for the article can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/285h6g and the whole article here: http://tinyurl.com/2ap7ll Given the difficulty of spacing multiple supplements that require being taken on an empty stomach your response to this would be appreciated.
