Hi Everyone,

My stomach is having a bad reaction to Azithromycin. I have tried everything taking it with food, without food, etc. I just can't take it! I am on Minocycline as well. I have a call into the doctor. What other Antibotic can they give instead of Azithromycin...any suggestions???

Thanks for your help.

I too cannot take Zith. Spent more time in the bathroom and shoulda bought Charmin stock.

My Dr. placed me on Biaxin in its place. I am sure others will chime in, as I know there are other orals you can take in place of.

Another vote for Biaxin here...

Hope you find some relief soon, zith can really do a number on your tummy.

Are you taking s. boulardii in addition to good probiotics?

how many mg of zithromax are you on?
every day, or every other day?

THANKS EVERYONE for your help. Looks like Biaxin is the alternate. Hopefully the Dr. will agree...my stomach can't take much more :-(

Can only get better from here! Have a good day.

I believe they give this drug to people who suffer from gasteoparisis, as well. I think it increases motility in the stomach, hence the bathroom issues.

You may want to try biaxin instead.

Biaxin and Zithromax speed up intestinal motility. This is a known effect of the drugs. What you can do while on them is take some Immodium to balance things out. What is the ""reaction" is it just diarrhea, or is it a true allergy?
Biaxin orally is a really good Lyme and Bartonella drug, and also works with Mepron for babesia.

if you can find a way to tolerate it, it does work really well. The metal taste is also a known and not harmful side effect. It goes away in time. [Smile]
