Boy am I in trouble here - once again.

For the last 4 days my anxiety (and all kinds of going nuts feelings) has been unbearable, now just a couple of hours ago it went through the roof and had to take Xanax for it.

I just dont understand what is going on here and what is causing this. About one week ago I stopped taking my little dose (125 mg) of Biaxin (because it made my skin burning worse). Could stopping that cause this kind of reaction?!

OR could LLLT (low level laser therapy) cause this kind of a herx?! I tried it twice for some pain relief this week. Any idea if that could kill some bugs and cause a mental herx from hell?

Anyway I decided to start the antibiotic again today, this time Roxithromycin.

Any ideas? I'm really struggling with this now. [Frown]

Thanks

BF,

Have you been keeping a symptom journal? If so, you might look back 3-4 weeks to see where you were. The ketes tend to have a 3-4 week regeneration cycle so some people have ups and downs based on the herx that happens when your body attacks them during this phase.

It's also a good idea to keep a journal for you anxiety issues. If you're anxious you can look back to a time when you were not to remind you that you will get through this. You will. We all do.

BTW, my journal is based on my 5 most concerning symptoms. Alongside I write little notes to myself about med. changes, work outs, baths, etc to try to piece together what makes me better and what makes me worse.

It helps.

Not up on your history, BF, but I do know that when you are taking an antibiotic that works, you have an exaggeration of your symtpoms.

or me,it took about 4 months for those exaggerated symtpoms to wane. It is a rough ride.

125 mg. of Biaxin isn't much of a dose...perhaps you were taking something else along with it?

I am taking 1000 mg. Biaxin XL in morning and 1000 mg. Ceptra at dinner. Also Probenicid.

Your anxiety should lessen with further treatment, and may seem like full blown panic attacks. Take the Zanax. Those are really scarey!

If you are having true panic attacks, maybe you should consult a doctor about a medicine that
is more affective?

All the best........ [Cool]

Acupuncture and strong adrenal support helped turn things around for me, in addition to anti-microbial remedies.

I think it is probably a cortisol issue. Chances are your cortisol is too low or two high.

With the kind of anxiety you are experiencing, your cortisol is probably too high.

All of this can happen from lyme, when your body is fighting so hard to deal with infection and with clearing out toxins.

Do you have any doctors who can test your cortisol levels? Here is a website explaining adrenal function and treatment:

I agree that acupuncture can help. Craniosacral therapy also can help.

I was on Biaxin/Plaquenil and went through the worst herx (landed me in the hospital for 5 days). The worst part for me was the anxiety or the "I wish that plane I hear flying overhead would crash down into me". I've never been so mentally unstable. I'm now on IV Ceft. and feeling better so I'm not sure whether it was the medication or the herx. I will likely be going back on the Biaxin again...sigh. I popped ativans and Xanax to get through and did a lot of crying. It should pass but don't be afraid to use meds to help.

Biaxin caused a severe panic attack for me.

I woke up in the middle of the night with panic and paranoia (I took Ativan, which is like Xanax).

One of the possible side effects of Biaxin is anxiety and unstable mood.

Good luck and God bless, I know how you feel.

Do you have any history of anxiety ?

Depression and anxiety can be symptoms of the disease and co-ineffection. My LLMD put me on ABILIFY and within two weeks no more "crazy/better off dead thoughts" I take only 1/2 of a 5mg dose at night.

For your comparisom, my regiment is Mepron, Plaquinil, Klonopin, Abilify, Flexeril, Biaxin 1000mg/daily (just started yesterday, used to take Zith), a host of anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds (taking these for 14 years) and supplments like THERALAC, vitamins, ect.

Everybody is different, obviously, but the Abilify is worth looking into.
