Hi, as you know I have Lyme and am very knowledgable about this disease. I try not to think everyone else has Lyme, but this is strange and I need your help.
My 18 year old son has been tested through Igenex twice once completely negative and again IgG positive. Since he had no symptoms LLMD's chose not to treat saying it was only past infection, not active if no symptoms.
Ok knowing that this is what is going on now, please keep an open mind it could be active LD and maybe not and maybe you can help me, here is how this started a few weeks ago:
These are his words: Was at a gym class wrestling after class stomach felt irritated scrape on knee became infected but resolved and healed did run a fever for a day or two - felt like flu
Turned to burning stomach - then sudden nausea - metal taste in mouth (on no medications)- feeling of wanting to vomit but doesn't - diarrhea off and on - light headed - weak - fatigued - nausea comes on slowly after waking lasts all day can't eat
The constant nausea is driving him insane, nothing helps it at all.
Any help is appreciated.

It could be lots of things. I would get him tested for GI infections. It's very possible it's a flu or GI infection, that's much easier to deal with than Lyme or may even just go away.
If not, then I would consider Lyme.

Sorry Lymebites but if after taking your kid to a regulas PCP and not finding the cause for this I would say it is Lyme.
My daughter relapsed exactly with very, but very similar sx as yours...she would sit next to the toillet because of the nauseas.....she wouldn't eat....diarrhea and contipation. on and off..
I was in denial at the beginning together with my husband....you know I thought I'm just so obsessed with Lyme that now any virus around the house means lyme.....
Those events took place on Oct 2005.... Dec 23 2005 her PCP told me she was just constipated and constipation produces nausea...by Jan 2005 she was on the ER with tachycardia....I knew it was Lyme...

Anyone think staph?? Anyone know about staph infection? He did have a cut on the knee pretty bad.... what antibiotics are used for staph ?
Thank you others for your opinion, I so do NOT want to beleive this is LD, but at least I know better if they can't find anything else.

Are you CERTAIN this doc is really Lyme Literate? A postivie IGeneX test should not be ignored, IMO.

If he is nausea all the time this is what I had for about 8 months and it was lyme disease I had positive test also. I was also throwing up everyday.
give him some abx and see what happens.

WIth me with LYme I also had constant nausea-
Ehrlichiosis can cause that too btw so I would make sure he gets tested for hGE & HME-
Ehrlichiosis also causes diarrhea- could be other things but could be LYme or Ehr/Anaplasmosis-

See my Lyme is ALL excruciating pain, I don't experience anything but pain. He has no pain, this is what confuses me, I thought pain was what we all had in common. I get nausea because my pain can be intolerable. But at first I must admit, I couldn't eat anything and had severe GI issues.
Lymednva Yes the LLMD who gave the opinion was Dr. S (invented the cd57). I went a step further had a friend check with Dr. J (pediatric LLMD as well) he said IgG positive without symptoms should not be treated. IgM indicates current and active infection and IgG just means exposure or older infection...again it boiled down to no symptoms, at the time.
Thanks for your opinions...it is hard to convince him it could be active LD, he thinks I believe everything is LD and I do. So I am really trying to think outside the box and it is hard.
I am taking him to a mainstream MD today...we all know if he can't find the answer, his lyme is become active.

GI have always been some of my main symptoms. Fatigue, too. I only started having the pain within the past few years (35 year infection).
It ends up I have severe bacterial dysbiosis. I did a 3 day random stool collection to test for it. I have an overgrowth of Klebsiella and Citrobacter with none of several of the good bacterias despite taking probiotics for years.
I am taking Oil of Oregano, Plant Tannins, and took a month of Uva Ursi. I also take massive probiotics. It's helping.
Maybe it's a bacterial infection like this. No doctor, not even a GI, could ever figure out my intestinal issues. It even took about 6 months for my LLMD to find out the cause.
BTW, I was IgG positive but I was symptomatic.

Well surprise, surprise! I just took him to his mainstream MD - guess what the diagnosis was, I think you already know....ANXIETY!! Looking more like Lyme now than ever, Anxiety is LD in my opinion! Unreal!

My daughter has very little pain...except menstrual and dental...btw...but she had GI sx for years before we got the Lyme diagnosis...
It concerns me that your son is positive on the WB but not being treated...seems to me that if he has enver been treated...he's a sitting duck in a way...
My daughter's WB was read as a current infection only and we were told she had no evidence of an OLD one....but she'd been symptomatic for 11 years at the time..
Seems to me your son should be treated.

I know staph, strep etc are common among wrestlers. I have family of wrestlers for years.
Mats are known to harbor bacteria and multiple from there. Especially if they aren't doing a good bacteria killing everyday on the mats.
Also wrestlers are so close and personnal with their opponenets that transfer of bacteria, viruses, fungus etc are very common.
My two grandsons have had a stomach illness this summer that has really puzzled me. Complained of nausea, stomach pains, no vomiting or bowel problems with it. It's come and gone a couple times this summer. Which made me wonder if it was staph or strep bacteria that they keep coming in contact with.
But then again I remember for the first 6 months after I became ill, I had nausea every day. But I had a long list of other sx with that.

I've read and heard from LLMD's that GI symptoms are one of the most common in kids with lymes.
My stomache has been a wreck for years, and my LLMD told me that the spirochete actually can live in GI tract and make holes in it.
Not saying he has Lyme, but if he does, better treat sooner than later.

Everything is ANXIETY. All his symptoms are psychosamatic. None of this is real.
I'm just passing on the advice 15 different doctors told me. It's easy advice to give and they still get paid.
I'm going to medical school and I'm going to make millions with that diagnosis.
Lyme can cause symptoms in any part of his body! Keep getting him checked and don't take no for an answer! You know yourself and your kids better than any doctor!
