I'm on clindamycin/quinine protocol. Having the worst herx I have had in a long time... migraine & word-finding difficulties, which is making it hard for me to work full-time.

I have reduced my dosages because the herx is so severe.

However, I was looking forward to taking higher doses over this 3-day weekend, because I can just herx away and not worry about work.

Has anyone tried this kind of roller coaster approach?
Am I asking for trouble,
or is it worth it to hit the Babs hard when I can?

thanks!

I don't know what Dr. C's protocol is or what the dosages are.

But the hubby's experience with Q/C was brutal enough that I would seriously question raising the dosage if you are already having difficulty tolerating what you are doing.

Our (the hubby's and mine) experience with babs is that the first 3-4 months are pretty awful on any treatment that works.

"Herxing away" does not mean you will get better faster. It may mean that you will beat your liver, stomach, and adrenals into a pulp uselessly--even on short term high doses-- and will have difficulty recovering from that and continuing any abx at all. And with quinine you really have to be ultra careful of your hearing.

Been there. Done that. Got the useless hair shirt. I realize how tough this is job-wise, but truly -- there aren't any short cuts with babs. It's an astoundingly vicious and pernicious beast.

Best of luck. Take good, good care of your liver.

PS -- I'd run this whole thing by your doc.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Minou. I will avoid the roller coaster! No hair shirt for me!

I just posted a new topic asking if it is advisable to take the Quinine only once every other day (instead of once per day). The herx is so strong, I don't feel that I can take it every day and continue to go to work.

I'm trying to figure out how to make the Babs treatment work, but I can't afford to give up my job... I do want to kick the Babs though. That would be wonderful. [lick]

p.s. I am taking a lot of milk thistle for my liver. Had elevated enzymes earlier this summer, so I was on hiatus from abx for a couple months until things calmed down. That taught me to be very respectful of my liver!
