My LLMD said i have a very aggressive case of babesia and lyme.
He said if i don't tackle it, i will fall off the cliff...hmmm.
He scheduled me for a mediport next week, i guess i will start the abx next week too.
I have a very ALS presentation of lyme /babesia. He was hesitant to do the rocephin at first, but i told him i had done my homework here.
he then went on to tell me, it was the best abx and it should get me better, 4 - 6 mos. minimum and the good thing, it doesn't cause a major herx, he didn't know why, but he said it's the best treatement and the best for reactions.
What is ya'll opinion, what can i expect with the mediport?
I will have i think 2 mg, 2x's /day for 4 days / week..?
thx,

I also have a very aggressive case of babesia and Chronic Lyme disease. Now am also being tested for 2- more tick diseases. I was on Rocephin IV 2gms once a day for about 14 weeks. started feeling pretty good. I was about 2/3 of my normal self. So my doctor put me on a hybrid penicillin shot 1 every 3 days. I was hoping to go back to work in 2~3 months but then I had a real bad relapse. So now I am back on Rocephin IV for 4-to-8 weeks. It has been 2 weeks now and I see a good improvement already. I will say that Rocephin IV has been the best thing I have taken for this so far. But Rocephin is VERY HARD ON YOUR LIVER! To help this I also take (over the counter rx's) 1. Milk Thistle (2-twice a day) 2. Grape seed Extract (100mg - 2 a day) 3. Alpha Lipoic Acid (300mg-2 a day) 4. You will need a good ``Probiotic'' from the health food store. I get all of the above at GNC.
I am also taking other things because when your on heavy duty antibiotics you can get ``C-dif'' because all of you good bacteria is killed off with the bad. And you intestines need good bacteria to process your waste. That is what the ``Probiotic'' helps with. I am also on Flagyl (RX) to keep this from happening.
Anyway hope something I have said helps you. Richard

Thanks, that's not good because i eat 4 - 5 tylenol every day to kill the pain i am in. I know that ia hard on your liver too.
I hope my enzymes don't get elevated.
i will take what you suggested...Thanks very much.
Everything i read about Rocephin is great news. I am looking forward.
Do you ahve a PICC line or mediport. My LLMD said the PICC lines are dangerous and the mediport is the way to go, it's really easy.?
Of course, i am still active, so that may be why he said the mediport. he said he had a patient almost die on a PICC line?
i will be on 1 mg, each day for 7 days, then, 2 mg per day, 2x's per day for 4 days, then 3 days off, then same cycle.
thx,
jamie

I have a PICC line for IV Rocephin-4 days infusion 2Gm every 12 hours.
My LLMD was very cautious about ordering it because some of her patients have had some scary experiences with a PICC line.
However, I am on my 6th month with it-no problems , except initial allergic reaction to tegaderm dressing which has been changed to Primapore.
Now the LLMD doesn't want to pull it because I have made such good progress on the Rocephin.
I do not know what a mediport is. I have gotten so used to the picc I hardly know it's there-except when I overdo it-long drives, picking up toddlers, carrying groceries or my purse(!) and my arm aches.
If you are active-then perhaps the medi port is the way to go.
I tripped over a floor fan . We both went down. Fan broke in half , the base bent, and I landed on my left picc arm. It hurt more than usual that day, which freaked me, and I almost called the nurse-but after a couple of hours and a long nap it didn't hurt so much and I was fine.
Take care, Carol
and I also take Actigall for any problems with gallbladder that may arise with use of Rocephin and handfuls of probioitcs.
