I am only 2 weeks or so into a 2 mo course of amox. Since I have NO idea how long i've had this(but I have arthritic s/s so I'm guessing awhile)...with everything I am reading and learning, I would like a course of doxy. also when this is finished. I will be seeing my Doc to take my 16 yr old son for his physical(who I'm also requesting to be tested for lyme due to his achy joints) so I want to bring up the whole lyme "issue" and get a feel for how he feels and see if he'll continue my abx despite a negative follow-up that I'll prob. get when retested. He MUST be somewhat lyme educated due to the fact that he tested me first visit just based on my s/s. I do not want to offend him tho, or look like a paranoid person either. Should I print out some info for him? What would you suggest? Thanx!!

Hi Kath628

I would print out Dr B's guidelines and hope he reads them.

If not I would try to find a Good LLMD.

Here's a link to Dr. B's guidlines...it's kind of long..

Don't know how big his ego is and if he will read it but I figure it's your life and health and the health of you children at stake here. If he doesn't listen to you, I would find a LLMD. Lyme Disease and it's co-infections are tricky to treat.

Good luck hope you and your son are feeling better soon [group hug]

If he doesn't listen PLEASE find an LLMD. Don't let your health go downhill because of your GP.

Doxy is part of the standard of care for arthritis, so even if your doc doesn't really believe you still have Lyme, he might be willing to continue you on doxy if you still have arthritis. My dr is like that and I've been on doxy since '87. I do have a backup LLMD but my pcp gives me the doxy scrip.

Hi kath

was thinking about you this morning & just wanted to say you are in my thoughts & prayers.

One quick thing re: asking for doxy...the average GP or doc will RX out 200 mg of doxy a day for maybe a week to 10 days, if you are lucky.

This in not high enough to treat lyme...re-read Dr. B's recommendations...he sugests at least 300-600 doxy mg a day for lyme. Over a much longer course than the average GP, which has been spoon feed mis-information.

Hope you can find a good doctor to treat & follow you.

hugs & healing

none of the above is medical advise...just my 2 cents

Well, he took a wait and see stance...so it wasnt a yes or no. I really like my Dr and he does seem pretty knowledgable about lyme. So I will take my western blot again in 6 weeks. He said we will look at the bands to see how they are first. Also, he said his next step would prob. be IV abx, which I thought was pretty good and aggressive for a GP!!

You have GOOD things going on there and BAD things.

I dont understand his wanting to 'read' the bands on additional tests?? He cant see if your cured,,,this isnt mono!!

Saying you need IV is probably good,,,but will he continue with THAT till they are ALL gone,,,or tickle the keets and make them hide??

Me thinks you better start collecting names and possible real deal LLMD's,,to fall back on,,,just in case. Maybe a visit to one and you could see who is better versed!! thinking--just don--
