One symptom I havent heard much of is severe alcohol intolerance.
If I drink a few sips of beer or wine, I almost immediately feel intense vertigo, headache, feeling of swelling in my head, nausea and sometimes intense vomiting.
I havent heard anyone else report this yet. Dr. S. in FL told me it was because my brain was swelling.
I went thru 8 months of high dose zithromax/rifampin-omnicef comb... I still feel a little worse than when I started treatment.
Anyone else feel this way? Maybe this is a result of a co-infection like bartonella?

Oh, yes! It's probably not talked about much because most of us avoid alcohol entirely.

Dear James -- welcome.
Are you, by any chance, taking flagyl or tindamax? If so, those render you basically incapable of metabolizing any alcohol and you'll get sick at even tiny doses.
I get a headache when I drink even one glass of wine and I do think this is lyme-related, although I don't know the mechanism. I feel groggy the next day even after one glass.
Alcohol can make you dehydrated, so that could be the headache.
But it sounds like you have a more immediate response. Have you always been like that?

Also....I'd place bets on yeast playing a factor here. How's your diet?? Are you avoiding carbs and sugar? Alcohol contains enough carbs and sugar to do a lyme patient in....not counting the alcohol content!!
DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.
"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."
Five Steps to Candida Elimination:
1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.
2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]
3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]
4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]
5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

My husband has never been a big drinker but did enjoy a few beers once in a while. However, since the day he became sick two years ago he has not wanted to drink at all.

lasting for days even when i didnt drink that much! I can hardly drink anymore. Occasionally
only on an upswing!

Immune response to the Lyme spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi affected by ethanol consumption.
Pavia CS, Bittker S, Cooper D.
Department of Medicine, New York Medical College, Valhalla.
Rats fed excessive amounts of ethanol developed marked hematologic and immunologic changes. These included a reversal of the normal lymphocyte to granulocyte ratio in the peripheral blood, lower spleen and lymph node weights and a greatly reduced capacity to express normal cell mediated immune functions, based on poor lymphocyte reactivity in vivo, and in vitro to T and B cell mitogens and borrelial antigens shortly after primary immunization with the bacterial spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi. Further evidence for impaired immune function caused by ethanol was based on little or no antibody response against Borrelia in rats following in vivo sensitization with B. burgdorferi incorporated in complete Freund's adjuvant. These findings provide substantial direct evidence strengthening the notion that high levels of ethanol ingestion adversely affect the host immune system and can interfere with the immune response to microorganisms.

No. Im only taking the rifampin, Zithromax and omnicef.
I was also taking Xanax, klonipin, seroquel, Ambien, various NSAIDS, and suboxone.
Basically its all garbage! None of it helped at all.
My anxiety was/is so strong I must be knocked almost completely unconcious to "escape".
Alcohol used to help with that...now I CANT want it. Not that I dont...I cant. What helps anxiety, vertigo, and pain that I havent mentioned?

I would have said exactly this had I seen this post earlier.
I tried a cocktail once after getting sick and eded up in the fetal position on the floor of a public restroom somewhere in Singapore (my job took me that way). It was bad.

Welcome to the club.
A couple SIPS and suicide is an option.
Cant break it down/immune system attackts it,,,, dont know
Anyway my lyme/yeast replapsed after a couple of months of heavy drinking.
Why was I drinking? Well ask any alcoholic.
I think Im really an alcoholic fourced to give up the drink because of lyme and yeast. It has been 5+ years.
I wish I could just be like everyone else and have a cig and a drink.
NO NO NO

Yes, I had this, it was from lyme.
It will get better, when the lyme or coinfections get better.
I was VERY sick from alcohol, and it was from lyme. I was not on antibiotics when I had some alcohol either, I just curled in a ball on the floor and cried I was so sick from the 1/8 glass of wine I had.
Make sure you dont have chronic stress, this made my lyme so much worse I almost died,
it was from living with family, they were the cause of why the lyme became so violent in me.
Stress, distress will make your lyme deathly, it near killed me.

I'd be careful with alcohol while on Rifampin, which can be harsh on the liver. Mention this to your LLMD to be on the safe side.
I'd aslo be concerned about the yeast implications.

You know after all the antibiotics, and liver detox supplements I have taken the only thing that has really helped alcohol tolerance again is mangosteen juice.
