About a day.

Hi Jennin, When I first began bicillin shots my tail was sore for about the first hour or so,
but the next day it felt as if someone had taken a 2x4 and hit me across each cheek.
Although they still leave bruses each time,
I can barely notice any pain or soreness.
I guess after 30 or 40 you begin to get acustomed to them.
It's well worth the soreness!!!
Hang in there.

I found that certain areas in the "zone" for the shot were much more sensitive than others. If the shot was given too high up (but still in the zone), it hurt like the dickens. If I stayed more to the side and down a bit - it helped.
I also bought some of those small round bandaids (shot sized!) and put one over each shot site. That way I could better track where the last shot was on that side and help to prevent scarring from using the same spot too much.
The other thing that helped was to rub the area right after getting the shot, or use that muscle in some physical way to work the medicine in well. That would help also. I was told by the nurse that taught me to shoot myself that it is best to try to work the medicine into the fibers of your muscle, otherwise it is just sitting there like a blob and pushing the fibers of the muscle out of the way.
She explained that working the medicine into the fiber would help the muscle recover.
Hang in there. You will learn as you go and hopefully find better spots to use that are not so painful.
