Hello All,

I have tried Bactrim twice, the first time I for a week and I had no problems. The second time my LLMD was prescribing for Bartonella and within a week of being on it I developed mouth sores and a light burning in my chest. I now have a new LLMD - very well respected in NY - and he wants to try Bactrim again. I said to him that I thought I'd had an allergic reaction, told him about the burning and mouth sores and he doesn't think it was a reaction. He said I can make my own decision but he'd like me to try it again. What do you all think? I've read that many people are allergic to sulfanoids and often it doesn't happen the first time they take it and could even happen after having succussfully taken it many times. What should I do. My other option is to try Levaquin and of course I'm scared of that too.

Perhaps you could try taking just a small dose for a couple of days/doses along with an antihistamine and see how that goes?

I am allergic to sulfa drugs and I learned this because the one time I took one within 1 hour my entire body had patches of bright bright red and I was running a high fever!!!!!! I had to be hospitalized for a few days because the same thing that happened to my skin happened to my lungs and they were worried about my lungs. The red stain of bright red patches did not go away for WEEKS and at the time I was a college student and it was very embarassing to me (I was young & vain). I was told it was a typical sulfa drug allergic reaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
