My LLMD has recommended an ionized serum mag test. I only got word thru the secretary, and she thought it was a type of mag that I should take, but on research it seems like ionized magnesium is a type of blood test.
does anyone know about this test and familiar with it and can relay what it is about in laymens terms?
thanks a bunch, trails

really? no one? Posted by peter j (Member # 11825) on :
do you know why your LLMD recommended this test?
I think I did a hair sample some years ago, and it showed not enough magnesium (don't know how a har samlpe can tell that, but they said it showd that)
does anyone know if it's typical to have too little magnesium when you have lyme?

Yes it is. Marnie has written a lot about it. Do a search on this forum for a lot of good info.

Peter--my LLMD recommended this test because lyme does create serious magnesium deficits and most lyme symptoms are actually attributable to mag deficiency. I am having a LOT of mag deficiency symptoms now.
It is a blood test, not a hair test. But hair tests can show some accurate things --particularly heavy metals.
I am suprised no one here knows about it because from what I have researched on-line, it looks like the most accurate testing for magnesium within your blood cells.
I will find more out from my LLMD by the end of the week supposedly.
In the meantime---if anyone knows more about this test--please let me know! thank ya, trails
