I was wondering if anyone knew if it was ok to get my teeth cleaned?
Right before (10 days before) I became VERY sick with Lyme I had my teeth cleaned for the first time in years. I am lucky to have healthy teeth and no cavitites.
I have been seeing improvement with my Lyme disease, but I am worried that the bacteria in my mouth may send me over the edge to feeling like death again. Any advice??
Thanks, Melissa

merry. YES, IT'S OK; i've done it for years before i knew i had lyme.
they need the ENTIRE LIST OF RX MEDS/SUPPLEMENTS/OTC, etc.
also if you've had hip/knee replacements, you need to take an abx PRIOR to coming there.
good question for our resident dentist, DOC DAVE!!

Like you I had my teeth cleaned just prior (3 days) before becoming very sick with what would 7 months later be determined to be Lyme. Have never been sure if that had anything to do with it but have wondered.
I really needed my teeth cleaned this year after having put it off for three years because of the same concern you have. I went ahead and had it done in August and am happy to say it caused no ill effects. I hope it will be the same for you.

Thanks alot! I am on Biaxin and Plaq so that eases my mind a lot. I have a heart murmur too, so I always get a bit nervous.
Thanks again, Melissa

Dental health is important to general health. Cleaning your teeth regular prevents infections. Poor dental health can lead to heart disease.
You should get regular dental cleanings.

yes at least 4 times a year. if gum disease then maybe 6 times a year. the doc will not charge for xrays and exam at each visit.
just tell them you want hygienist only and will have exam 1-2 times a year. insurance will only pay twice a year for cleaning and twice a year alternated for periodontal cleaning. so you can get 4 cleanings a year covered by insurance company.

I have mine cleaned 4X per year. The only time I felt sick was when they required that I take abx prior to every appointment for what they thought was rheumatic fever. Turned out to be lyme.
Lyme is very hard on the teeth, if you want to keep them, you must have them cleaned.

My LLMD told me that going to the dentist was fine with Lyme. I actually go every 3 months because lyme has made me have teeth problems.
