Since starting tx for lyme more than 2 yrs ago, my blood work always comes back showing abnormally low white blood cell count (WBC) and it is always due to low neutrophil count.

Is this common?

okay I'll start off the poll.

Yes to neutropinia for me.

Have no idea if it is common

Daughter, 15, does. Not PANIC BUTTON low, just lower than the low end of the range. LLMD not worried. Yes, she has lyme, though "supposedly" not at the moment.

Yes My neutrophlis is low and so are my WBC. Both where in the middle range on blood work in Jan. Looks like they dropped after being diagnosed with LYME

I have low wbc count. It has been around 3.8. A few weeks ago I had blood work done and it was

2.3. My doctor thought that I had caught a virus, which I did and had me retested a week

later. My count then was back in the upper three's. Guess it's all part of the disease.

I was freaked out the first few times it was low. The lowest it was was around 2.7 with neuts about 1200. But it hits that every few tests and is rarely normal.

"They" always say that viruses make wbc lower and bacteria make wbc higher. But what do "they" know anyway?

I hope more people respond.

My daughter has had a VERY low white count on some occasions and a normal one on others. Whenever her white count was low, her platlets were also very low...

the first time it happened...her pediatrician sent her to the ER feeling she might have leukemia.

At that time, she was diagnosed with mononucleosis...which she had already had years before....

the next time her white count and platelets were low, she was sent to a hemotology/oncology Doc...who tested her for just about everything BUT Lyme or coinfections..

Her LLMD says that the abnormal blood counts are babesia symptoms

I have low white blood cell counts as well as low neutrophil counts.

Even before I was on abx, though, my white blood cell count was low. It's been low since my early high school years (I'm 23 now). This may have been the time I was infected, but I really have no idea.

My white blood cells have always been pretty low. Usually between 2.4 - 3.1. I don't think it's ever been higher than that. It worries me, yes, because that's pretty freaking low. But every doctor I've ever been to, including my LLMD, doesn't seem to think too much of it, especially since I have had it that way for multiple years. I don't know what's causing it. I've been told that only ehrlichiosis causes low white blood cells.

My LLMD and I don't know if I have that. Tests have shown that I don't, but who knows.
