is anyone doing bicillin shots now? is it helping? any allergic reactions?

i just started and have "moderately severe" (whatever that means) SPECT scan results "consistent with neuroboreliosis".

i'm wondering if these shots are

really going to help me with my brain function.

also, i had breathing problems after the shot, but benadryl helped. is this normal?

I agree with jasek- I've never done them but almost everyone I know who has- it takes time- but works great in teh end-

one local woman sick 10 years+ is 100% symptom free thanks to them!!!

while bicillin gave me a significan herx reaction (tachycardia which landed me in the ER), it didn't improve my overall condition.

I'm now on Valcyte since it appears I have infections with hhv-6, EBV and CMV.

I do think I had (and maybe still have) lyme. But for now I'm addressing the viral issues.

The symptoms for lyme disease and chronic viral infection are the same.

jasek,

when you say give it time how much time do you mean approximately? I was on bicillin from sept 2006 until the july 1 2007. no improvement. maybe bicillin just works for some and not others?

Hi glitter--

I have been on bicillin shots since mid-August. For the first month, i had one shot/week, and in September started 2 shots/week.

I think these shots are great, and really helping me. I am almost normal in terms of energy now. For the first time in years, my daily chest pains have gone away. I do not like the injections, but will stick with it as long as I can stand it.

My llmd says biclliin does not cross the blood-brain barrier, and I am also taking minocycline for neuroborreliosis. However, I think the bicillin shots have helped, very slightly, with my neuro symptoms. Best wishes.

PS: Breathing problems can be a sign of an allergic reaction. And if benadryl helped, then that is another clue that you might have an allergy. Speak with your doctor about this.

Be very careful with these shots to look for signs of an allergic rx and have benadryl on hand. Seek medical help immediately if you have severe itching after the shots or other signs of a bad allergic rx -- turning red and having great difficulty breathing.

I'm pretty sure Bicillin does cross the BBB....that is why Dr B says the shots are almost as good as IV........
