A high CPK level and an elevated sed rate were the only consistently abnormal findings in my blood tests prior to proper testing for Lyme. My LLPA explained that this was probably due to "molecular mimicry" -- one of the molecules of the spirochete so closely resembles normal muscle tissue that in attacking, the immune system gets the muscle instead. The CPK is an enzyme that leaks into the bloodstream when the muscles are inflamed, infected, or damaged.
