Got back my routine BW from LD today. Finally after 8 months my WBC is normal..yeah for that.

However, my Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, MCV and
MCH are very low.

My RDW is high.

LD is on vacation this week and next sigh.

Anyone have similar problems with anemia and LD?

Have you been tested for babesia?

Yes, and have been treated rounds of it with Mepron/Biaxin. I would assume that my LLMD took this into account...Maybe I should not assume anything at this point!

It could simply be an indication that infected cells are being cleaned up (destroyed) by your immune system. Did you also see a rise in ALP, AST, BUN, or ESR?

My blood work has been "slightly off" but nothing the doctors worried about, since the first signs that something wasn't right.

I have been on lyme, babs and bart treatment for a little over 11 months now and my PCP continues to do blood work to watch liver levels, etc.

But even with the last one, she talked about how I'm still outside that normal range, but followed it up by saying, "but it's been like this a long time, so we won't worry about it".

SOOOOOOOOO...does that mean that even though I'm on treatment for babs even now (Mepron and Zith), that I haven't cleared that infection yet? Guess it will be a question for my LLMD when I go back in for my next appointment, but was wondering if anyone knew.

My RBC are high, too [Frown] I dont know what that means and the doc never mentioned it to me. I saw it on my report after picking it up last week.

So, I am kind of thrown for a loop with that. I am interested on what others' input will be.

Thanks everyone

No, all of the above mentioned are within normal range.

I read somewhere where this also could be a indicator of low B-12????

But are they elevated or at the higher end of the lab "normals"? Keep in mind that "normal" simply means a range that your specific lab *thinks* are results from healthy people (i.e. statistics).

Anytime you are tempted to consider supplementation, at the very least be sure you have a measured deficiency, then consider what the root cause of any deficiency might be. Don't assume supplements, even vitamins & minerals are harmless, especially for those with chronic illness!

No, they are all at the "mid-range", maybe a tad lower than mid range on a couple.

Most of my lab results remained "normal" until about 10 months into my treatment on MP. Then my HCT & HGB dropped below normal while some of the other inflammatory markers went up to the high end of normal. I don't think it's a coincidence that this happened not long after I added the same antibiotic previously used as part of my treatment for babesia. The most reasonable explanation in my case seems to be infected cell apoptosis.

I'm curious how you felt during the time leading up to when blood was drawn for your recent lab tests. Prior to my abnormal test results, I went thru some nasty immunopathology. I felt MUCH better not long after that!

Funny you should mention how I felt/feel. I was feeling pretty darn good and was like WOO HOO here...

Then end last week and all this week feel crapola. My blood was drawn last Tues the 23rd. I am extremely fatigued and ache, now throw in nausea which I have never had and you got me!

Maybe you tested at the onset of some serious immunopathology & a retest, now that you're feeling bad, is in order. At the least, improved results might help reduce any anxiety over the previous results. At best maybe those and/or other tests could help get to the bottom of this. Hopefully your doctor will have some good advice.

What medications (including non prescription & supplements) are you taking?

Have you ever had your vitamin D levels (25-D & 1,25-D) tested?

No, on the Vitamin D levels

I currently take Biaxin, Ceftin and Tindamax 1,000 mg daily ea. 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off

Nexium 40mg daily and I have Provigil which I have yet to take at 100 mg daily.

I had been taking B-12 injections 2X weekly, but took a month break per my LLD.

Wow, that's a LOT of medication!!!

I also don't understand the reasoning behind that sort of antibiotic cycle.

It is interesting that the B-12 injections didn't seem to cure your anemia. What is the root cause of your anemia? Have you been diagnosed with Pernicious Anemia? Has your doctor ever mentioned "auto immunity?"

If you do have a blood draw for more labwork, consider doing the vitamin D tests at the same time. Chronic Th1 inflammation might explain your need for all those other palliative medications too! Besides, how can more information hurt?

I have the same. Have been fighting very low iron levels for 2 years. They went to normal after my first treatment with mepron/ketek so when my ferritin & serum iron dropped really low the 2nd time, the doc put me back on mepron/zith. After several months, this isn't working. My bp (already low) has dropped a good amount lower and I'm having alot of heart palps which the doc attributes to anemia. My erythropoietin (EPO) testing was good and Vit D was at 30 (up from non-reportable).
