Upon wakening from sleep, usually in the early morning, I feel like I stop breathing.

It's the strangest thing. One minute I'm asleep, and the next I feel like I'm waking myself up because I need a breath.

I never feel out of breath. I never wake up coughing. I never wake up gasping for air. People that have slept in the same bed as me say that it doesn't appear that I stop breathing.

It doesn't happen while I'm falling asleep. It doesn't happen when I wake up during the night. It only occurs in the morning.

I've had pulmonary function testing done. It's normal. I'm having a sleep lab done on Monday, but my doctor doesn't believe I have apnea.

This is some real scary stuff. It's happened a couple different times, usually lasts about a week, then it disappears.

I'm wondering if it could be related to a herx?

Or, is it possible I could have this abnormal breathing feeling from acid reflux?

Or, maybe Babs?

I had the same thing happen to me many times - in fact, it was so bad, my gums were turning blue, and nobody would listen.

I would call my sister at 2am because I honestly thought I was going to stop breathing or that my heart was going to stop - not sure which. This happened to me in the grocery store, too, and I had to stoop down to keep from collapsing.

I found that some of this was being caused by food allergies or intolerances. I only had an undiagnosed egg allergy, but I was able to decrease the severity of this somewhat by eliminating many foods - milk, eggs, all grains, all root veggies - to name a few.

Some of this was being caused by exposure to electromagnetic fields though. You may want to look into 'electromagnetic sensitivities/hypersensitivities' to see if this is part of your problem.

I think ELF exposure is a cofactor in chronic Lyme Disease, though I'm having difficulty getting any doctor to listen to me - yet.

As far as reflux goes, mastic gum is the only thing that has helped, and it actually works quite well. I got mine from Nutricology. Good luck!

It could also be all of the above, unfortunately.

I have sleep apnea, and when it *first* hit me, I only noticed it in the am because that was when I would normally be waking up regardless. I never noticed it at night. I do not snore and never have.

It progressed to the point I was FLYING out of bed gasping for air then. Thats when it dawned on me that I had apnea. That and a very useless boyfriend that I had at that time, said I paused when I breathed but failed to mention

it to me.

Acid can back up in ur throat and cause the same symptoms as well.

Best to keep on going. Get the apnea test done, get something for acid, and if you suspect babs- treat for it.
