Hi all. I posted last week about feeling tired and sick after starting IV rocephin but over the weekend I got new symptoms that I did not have before. I got pain in my hands, wrists and fingers and in my ankle and back along wih stiff neck (neck stiffness I did have a few times before). It seems like I am getting joint pain, which I did not have before.
I gather this is rocephin stirring things up, or herx? I still feel very sick and tired.
Did those of you who go on IV rocephin get new joint pain or intensification of pain? I am so scared. Did the pain get better as the IV continued? I am so scared right now with going down hill and getting new pain.
I am still on 400mg doxy daily and 1 malarone and artemisinin and buhner core herbs, which I did before rocephin.

My LLMD, one of the best, didn't want me on anything else while on Rocephin except for a short bit, Flagyl for cystic form. But he felt it was important to let Rocepihn work on it's own & worried about interactions. I hope your doc is aware you are on that much stuff. Just be careful to get your liver enzymes checked!!! & some herbs do interact with abx so make sure you ran it all by your doc-
I kept progressing & Herxing for my first 6 months on Rocephin and turned in the 7th month to get back almost everything I had lost. It was wonderful. It was life again, because I was very very bad. Rocephin saved my life.
Yes, herxes will bring out new symptoms somtimes. My ex-husband got Lymed and he had a tick bite and felt ill and went on abx right away- and he had significant joint pain in the 3 weeks that followed that he had never had before.
Remember even if you appear to be in full remission to transition to orals before going off everything. Ropcehin is one of the only things I have ever seen put local Lymies into full remission- it is a great, great drug for Lyme disease.
I wish you well with it- joint pain- heck- you NEEDED to have joint pain to sympathize with all us other "used to have joint pain" Lymies- and so you can tell your grandkids, "When I had Lyme disease... my knee ached!!" or whatever*!!! OK, so maybe you don't NEED joint pain (none of us really do*)!! but it is not the worst thing in the world and is very, very common with Lyme and Babs. Grit your teeth, take aspirin or ibuprofen or whatever your doc recommneds- and hang in there*)!*)!
I have seen people recover from MS/Lyme with IV Rocephin, from ALS/Lyme, from lupus/Lyme, and many people with fibro/CFS, so joint pain- IV Rocephin should be able to handle it. We haven't had treatment failures locally with it, but that's lucky I guess... but I wish you every bit much as luck!!!! Best wishes, Sarah

Hi - I had a worsening of symptoms and even new symptoms of pain that I did not have before in the first weeks of IV Rocephin. They did get better and resolve.
I took Zith and Flagyl while on IV Rocephin the whole time.
Hang in there and remember to do all your detoxing tricks - it will help to make all this subside. Take care of yourself.

Herxing can involve an intensification of "old" symptoms and an emergence of "new" symptoms. If the symptom is on "the list", don't worry too much! Complete treatment should resolve all symptoms whether they're new or old.
Make sure you keep your diet clean so that you don't have to worry about YEAST causing "extra" symptoms!

Thank you all for your replies. I plan to continue the treatment because there is no other choice really.
It seems like every possible symptom is on the list for this disease. It's still scary to have something new pop up in addition to everything we are already dealing with as I am sure all of you know.
But this type of herx on IV rocephin seems like a common experience. I just hope it's not permanent. Thanks for your words of encouragement. -Despin
