I'm pretty chemically sensitive.. Have very bad neuro symptoms (electrical, buzzing, brain feels like lava lamp). I'm better than I was (being treated now). But don't want to get worse. Scared spect will make me worse. Also radioactive tracer -- I'm afraid. Should I be?

Hi jaykay,
I have had two Brain SPECTS with no major ill effects. I did get a worse headache right after,(like a herx) but I feel it really helped my doctor with my Lyme Diagnosis.
My second Brain SPECT showed improvement, so for me it did not make my brain worse.
Good luck to you.
Just sharing my experience.

Hi jaykay,
I am scheduled for a SPECT too, when I was having my MRA I went to talk to the SPECT people.
They said that the tracer has less radioactivity than a chest x-ray. I'm comfortable with that. They also said that the tracers half life is very short so your body will get rid of it quickly.
Hope this helps.

I didn't experience any bad reactions to mine. In fact, the test itself wasn't bad at all. The worst part was driving 90 minutes to San Francisco and trying to find a place to park...
