Just wondering about Ceftin.........previously I was taking Doxy. Any different side effects or anything?

I know the doxy does a number on my stomach. Overall, it made me feel better. I noticed I was "clearer headed" while taking the doxy, so it was worth the gut bombs.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice!

Take care,

It has been studied and found to be just as effective as Doxy for Lyme disease-

I hope you have success with it!!!

I didn't know that. Hmmmm........that's good to know. I hope I have good results with it, too!

Thanks, Sarah!

I was treated for 14 months (last two were symptom-free) and ceftin was pretty much a constant abx for me.......combined with other abx thru-out treatment.

I took two 500mg twice daily.

valymemom- that's what I'm taking, or started taking today --- 500mg twice/day.

Sure hope I have the same response you've had! Thanks for your input!

Terri,

I started taking ceftin in June 2005 and am still taking it. I ramped up the dosage slowly, and I herxed terribly on it--but at that point, my bacterial load was really high. I had a number of previously hidden sxs surface in the first month.

But I stuck with it and slowly increased the dosage.

For me, it's been a great abx choice!

I'm back at work now and have begun cutting back the ceftin.

I hope it's successful for you, too!

It can cause a horrible herx, so make sure you detox.

Good luck

I didn't mention detox stuff, but I did a lot of it-- from foot detox pads to lemon water and dry brushing. Also baths using essential oils.

Annie & Savebabe - thanks for your advice and encouragement. It's very appreciated!

What kind of foot detox pads? What do they actually do and where can you find them?

What is the dry brushing? Any other thoughts on detox methods?

Thanks so much for your help!

Take care,

terri3boys

I did the ceftin thing for 3 months and it did a number on my gut. Beware of sugar! Detox tea and live acidophilus and small regular meals were very helpful in my case.
Good luck!

I use burbur, parsley and glutathione to detox.

My favorite though, is gluathione from wellness pharmacy. I have been using it for a year and it significantly reduces herx symptoms.

Feel better.

Hissyfits - Love your name! Ha,ha! Thanks for your detox advice, I'll keep all of it in mind.

savebabe - What form of glutathione do you get? I'm curious because my doctor has had me on ATP/Glutathione weekly shots over the past 3-4 years.

My hubby gives them to me in my *hip* area once a week. It's a very painful shot, even with some lidocaine in it. We have to do it at bedtime, so I can just roll over on to my heating pad and not move for a while. (It hurts when the nurses give the shot, too. Plain and simple, it just hurts!)

I've taken "breaks" from the shots periodically, especially when my bloodwork wouldn't show much improvement in my immune system. The whole reason I was getting the shots was to boost my immune system.

My doctor was treating me for Fibro, CFIDS, and many other dx's. This Lyme has just joined the party........it's possible that the Lyme has been the "host" of this never-ending party.

Thanks for all of the tips!!

Ceftin was a god send for me, but it made me horribly dizzy first thing in the am for about three weeks straight. After that, it was a cake walk considering how sensitive I am to abx.

It was one of the last orals I took for lyme and it worked great.

The foot detox pads are sold from several sources online--and they vary, in terms of cost and strength.

I used less expensive pads that were a bit less strong than the ones offered by my LLMD. Mine were sold at:
healthmarvels.net
(no, I have absolutely no financial stake in them).

You can also get them on ebay.

As far as dry brushing, do a google search. There are several sites with graphics.

I also got some essential lemon oil and put a drop or so into water for detox. And I used the detox teas, too...as well as a high quality pro-biotic.

Hope this helps!

Andie
