Has anyone done well (or poorly) with this combo? I just got a positive Lyme result on my igenex test and was prescribed Biaxin and Plaquenil.

Plaquenil looks a little intimidating but is supposed to be effective against cystic Lyme.

FYI - plaq can cause ringing of the ears I was put on Zithro/Plaq 2 yrs ago. I did see some improvement. Zithro/Plaq is a combo for babs, lyme/cysts and Plaq helps with the DR4 problem. I have heard that one has to be on the plaq for several months to see improvement with DR 4 genotype problem.

Biaxin was my wonder drug!!! Plaquenil caused intense stomach pain for me, so I didn't take much of that.

I remained on Plaquenil ever since this combo because it reduces my back and wrist pain. Since I am on it longterm, I get special eye exams every six months to make sure I'm not getting any eye damage.

I took Plaq for 2 months after I was diagnosed with Lupus. I felt like hell and stopped it.

With lyme, I just started zithro and will start doxy in 2 weeks.

I did 2 or 3 courses of 5 months of Biaxin/Plaquenil. They gave me good progress, without serious problems. After 5 months, each time I switched to an alternate drug.

The first time i did Biaxin/Plaquenil, by the fifth month I didn't feel good all month and could work only one hour per week. Finally, the last week, things cleared up, and i felt much better.
Now i know better than to take just straight antibiotics, alone! I've learned to add herbals, which greatly ameliorate the unpleasantness and make life pretty normal! I can't believe my LLMD let me suffer on antibiotics alone, when relief is so easy , if you find the right herbals to accompany them!

My doctor started me on plaquenil for the babs. It was the first drug she started me on. I saw no difference in condition with it. I am still on it and Tabers, thank you for saying it causes ringing in ears. I am just beginning to incur some of that.

30 days after beginning the plaquenil, I started ammoxy, biaxin & prevacid for a bad infestation of H. Pylori. Wow, did I ever begin to feel better.

I am still on all of the above. The doctor increased the biaxin from 500mg twice daily to 1000mg twice daily and said at this level it goes after the babs.

She also started me on IVs of MTE 9 which is an herbal parasite solution. So far, I can't tell any difference but at this point, I am basically asymptomatic, so it is really hard to tell when something is working.

In the future she does plan to put me on Mepron and she says the MTE 9 will bring down the parasite load so I do not have to take Mepron for long.

I am trying to juice fresh veggies daily to combate the negative side effects of these drugs.

I have to say killing the H. Pylori really seemed to do the trick for me.

I was on Plaquenil, Biaxin, Mepron, and Amoxy/Probenecid for months, I saw a lot of improvement on that combination.

I am still on Plaquenil though my other meds have changed around. I've never had a problem with it.
