i am especially interested in your dose of armour and maybe your weight. thanks

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

I used to take all three. No problem until the Armour began to make my heart race.

I had to stop it entirely. Dr said maybe we can try one of the synthetic meds later [once i get this sinus thing straightened out]. He said I may be allergic to the Armour.

I am 127 pounds and take one grain of Armour per day. It's helped tremendously! I feel almost normal again!

six:
is one grain 1000mg? do you have adrenal fatigue? thanks...more hope...

Posted by sixgoofykids (Member # 11141) on :

No, 30 mg.

Around the same time I started Armour, I also started parsley and burbur from the Cowden protocol, and did Humaworm. Between the three additions to my treatment, I have REALLY turned the corner recently! I have days I feel better than my non-Lymie hubby!

No, my adrenals test out fine.

I weigh about 105lbs and take 15mg of armour thyroid daily.

I used to take cortef as well, but now take florinef.

It comes as .1 a pill and I take one and a-half pill daily.

I don't take iodine other than lots and lots of salt. [Big Grin]

I am doing alright. May need to up my florinef to .2 daily as LLMD said I could.

It has really helped with my POTs symptoms and NMH as well.

Hugs,

Geneal

No, didn't know about the book.

Cortef treats the adrenal problem, right??

My Daughter is on Florinef and Armour. She seems to have a bit more energy than before taking it. It is hard to tell as she is still pretty much bedridden.

Hugs

PS...I'm on treatment for tachycardia already. Have been for years.

hmmmm.

cortef does help adrenals and i think iodine does too.

if i remember right...taking cortef and iodine..or getting your adrenals to work right may mean you can get by on less armour...

I think that's right, kayak.

i tried cortef and it wasn't working out for me.

So, doc had me get isocort.

That seems to be working out ok.

Posted by improver (Member # 8380) on :

I tried cortef and armour. The armour was a small dose and didn't seem to make a difference but I was only on it a short time and have already lost too much weight so the doc was concerned I would lose more.

The cortef was bad with me since I started out taking 25mg. That was way too high. My llmd said I shouldn't have taken it at all since it's a steroid. He said once my lyme is under control the adrenals will come back.

The question is will I ever really get better?

Many have done well with cortef, hopefully they will post.

Good luck, Rich

I take 1.5 grains of armour. (45 mgs). I take 15 mg of cortef. I was started on these when I was being treated for CFS/FM.

I was losing weight steadily, and feeling great, actually was 10 pounds away from my goal. Then I was hit with a relapse, worse than ever. I gained all the weight back this last year. So, now I'm a little more than 20 pounds from my ideal weight. It's a bummer.

After that I was diagnosed with lyme disease, and am now being treated. I hope to start losing weight again soon, because I'm starting to feel better. Winter is my worse time tho, so it may be later that I get back to my ideal weight.

One point about cortef: If it's the amount your body needs to be normally balance, it doesn't do damage. It's the large doses of steroids that are so harmful.

15 mg Armour

Has helped my energy level and appetite just a little bit.

105lbs and 15mg Armour,

Helped raise my body temp and gain some much needed weight.

There is also something called Isocort- natural cortisol someone once recommended- but start slow and only if needed. Some like better then Cortef.

145 lbs

Levoxyl - 50 mcg
T3 long acting - 7.5 mcg
cortef - 5mg
Iodoral - 25 mg AM (2 pills), 12.5 PM (1 pill)

Also -
Cytozyme AD - 1 per day

The levoxyl/T3 is similar to taking Armour.

I was able to reduce the Levoxyl over time. My adrenals were exhausted, but are getting better. Used to take more cortef and cytozyme at lunch time.

The most noticable result from the Iodoral was much less hair falling out.

Right now, I think I am cycling, so feeling a bit low.

You began the tread with " i am especially interested in your dose of armour and maybe your weight. thanks "

--

I just gotta say I got a chuckle out of the second part of the question.

I'm especially interested in my weight, too . . . Oy, Vey !

===

IMPROVER: Thank you.

you wrote about Cortef: " My llmd said I shouldn't have taken it at all since it's a steroid. He said once my lyme is under control the adrenals will come back. "

I have been searching for that information for years. THANK YOU. I've been wanting it, but unsure. SInce I don't have a LLMD, I so appreciate hearing what one thinks of this.

Yet, there is the question of if you give a very low dose . . . etc.

Vitamin B-5 is good for adrenals, too.

I take Iodine, not the others. I was taking 2 Iodoral a day but I cut back to one because I've gotten acne on my chin, and I've never had acne before.

I've read too much iodine can cause acne. My doctor says it is the iodine pushing toxins out. But I am tired of being over 30 with zits on my chin, so I cut back.

I take Synthroid 125 mcgs.

I'm starting low dose (5-10mgs per day) Cortef--which is supposedly bio-identical cortisol.

Theoretically it will act as a crutch to the adrenals until they can stabilize. I have some adrenal fatigue after battling both Lyme and viruses.

Both Dr B and Dr H feel that Cortef can be used to help adrenal fatigue and is not detrimental while on antibiotics and at the low doses used.

I just looked at my Armour script.
It is for 60 mg.
Does that seem high to anyone ????

My thyroid levels are in normal limits but at the low range..............

Maybe I skipped a thread or two but is anyone on 60 mg or more of Armour a day.

Thanx.....................

Posted by ICEiam (Member # 7519) on :

Daughter takes 60mg one time a day. She started out with 30mg and her LLMD upped it. Her Thyroid was 433.......which is pretty much off the charts.

She was/is so thin!!! Since being on the armour she has gained a few lbs......not enough, but now she doesn't look so much like a skeleton.

Hugs,

I took armour for a year first at 30 mg and then at 60 mg. I only weighed 89 pounds when at 60 mg. I did not feel like I got any more energy on it, so stopped it and now weigh 100. The antibiotics really tore up my gut and that is how I lost weight. I started at 117. (I am 5'3).

My thyroid tests are low normal, but I had a hard time taking armour due to having to take it twice a day and work it around my magnesium and iron supplements, plus you are supposed to take it an hour before breakfast and getting up an hour early was just too much with work. I needed all the sleep I could get!

I may talk to my doctor about synthroid. I know armour is more natural, but synthroid only has to be taken once a day according to my friend who is on it. Hiker53

Hi,
I take 30 mg of armour thyroid ( which I'm pretty sure would be considered 1/2 a grain), along with 125 mcg of synthroid.

I do have more energy with the armour but I still have hypothyroid symptoms; cold intolerance, dry skin, brittle hair... so maybe it needs to be increased.

I see some of you have mentioned florinef and iodine. I understand the iodine but what is the florinef for?

Thanks

Hi, I take the armour thyroid and cortef too and am gaining tons of weight but have been off Atkins so may just be my fault. No iodine problem. Armour thyroid really does help the energy and for me B12 shots when I'm not too bruised for it. Also this supplement called Cell Food which has dissolved Oxygen in it. My chiropractor gave me a supplement that supports the adrenals too and it really seemed to help

1 grain = 60 mg. I'm on 2.5 grains per day. I think people who don't have a thyroid generally need more hormone replacement than those who just have an underactive thyroid.

I almost hate to say this, but I have been on 180 mg of armour since the year 2000. I still have lots of symptoms, including an almost 2 degree BELOW normal body temp., very dry skin, hair falling out, very subject to infections, etc. Of course, I only got tested for Lyme this year (after being sick since 1993 with a whole bunch of things wrong) so maybe not getting treated for Lyme has something to do with using the dose I have. I just saw a Lyme doc last week for the first time. He actually wanted me to try to up the dose even higher due to my symptoms. So far, I have reacted badly when trying that. I had a bad reaction in the past when I tried Synthroid for a short time--developed really itchy, red, skin with little blisters all over it and had a lot of respiratory problems, too. These all slowly went away when I stopped the Synthroid and went to armour. I even tried taking myself off armour once a few years ago, thinking, "I still have all these symptoms, it must not be doing anything." I found out all my symptoms got MUCH worse, so it is helping--just not enough.

I am on 120mg of Armour Thyroid once a day and am still very symptomatic. I have really dry skin, cold intollerence and thinning hair. I am overweight, but my endocrinologist just tested my thyroid and said I needed to decrease my dose to 90mg. My LLMD wrote for my Armour Thyroid, but now I don't know which way to go with this. I have never taken the other meds.

this is really starting to confuse me too.

also, my primary who i really like and respect, doesn't want me on ANY steroid...because i am pre-diabetic.

i don't understand how overweight AND underweight can be a symptom.

oh well.... maybe my brain will work well enough to figure it out someday.
