Hi everyone, I'm having trouble finding a place that will draw my son's blood.
Dr. J gave me lab slips for both Igenex in CA and Medical Diagnostics Lab in NJ.
Everywhere I call will not do this - they will draw blood to be tested at their own labs only. His pediatrician's office doesn't do it there either.
Can anyone please advise me as to where I can take my son to get his blood drawn???
I am in CT if that helps. I'm faxing a note to Dr. J as well to see if they can help me.

how about local hospital since it has to be SPUN DOWN!

My children's blood was drawn by my neighbor, a RN, prior to being sent to Igenex.
How about a local walk in clinic?
We have a lab in New Orleans that will run any blood work you want without a Rx.

we went through the same thing here in baltimore.
Betty's suggestion worked for us. our son's pediatrician wrote a script for the blood draw, a local hospital did the draw and spin. we paid out of pocket, but it cost very little- it seems to me it was under $30.

What is a blood draw and spin? I'm sorry, I have no idea!
And why would my pediatrician write the script for a blood draw when I already have lab slips from Dr. J?

My LLMD suggested I try to have my blood drawn at PCPs office so I could get insurance coverage and was given the kits to take with me.
My PCP said no. I don't think it's because he couldn't sign. I think it's arrogance, that he didn't write the order and the fact that my insurance would not pay in that case was just too bad.
He thought I should come in and see the rheumagologist in his clinic and then my tests would be done by Quest. I said no thank you.

I'm in the next town over from you in CT. PM me and I can tell you who my doc is and how I got my blood drawn at the office.
I did talk to Quest in Southbury - they would have done the blood draw for me IF my doctor had sent me to Quest for a blood test Quest was going to process. They called this a "courtesy blood draw".
I ended up not doing this, but realized it could have been an option if I was stuck.
So maybe your doctor would be able to do that? Have them order a blood test for something else (cholesterol, etc), go to Quest and then take your IGeneX kit and ask for that "courtesy draw".
I find the staff at Quest in Southbury very nice - they should be able to help you out.

yes, it is confusng to a newbie to this whole ordeal!
blood draw is just having someone take blood out of you or whoever!
"spin" is a special machine they must put the blood in and spin it to match the regulations that IGENEX LAB needs!
you need some dr. to SIGN YOUR IGENEX REQUIRED FORM, date it, show diagnosis code why it's being done and so you can file this for innsurance reimbursement.
i only got back $ 34 perhaps!
