I realize that the normal course of treatment is until the symptoms are gone, but can anyone tell me if I've been infected for 5 months, what approximate time-frame I can expect to be on abx?

Second, is the treatment regimen the same for co-infections, as it is for Lyme?

Third, I've been experiencing blurry vision for the past few weeks.

I'm wondering if vision problems present this early on [read that it was mostly late-stage], and whether it is curable? I'm worried about permanent eye damage.

Hi Craig,
You have some good questions. The first is the hardest to answer. It really depends on the individual as far as how long treatment will be. If you have only been infected for 5 months the odds are with you for a quicker recovery in my opinion.

As far as treament regimins. Most co-infections have to be treated seperately from lyme since they are different types of organisms and need different things to kill them. If you are seeing a good llmd they will know what to do.

My vision problems usually get better while on treatment. I have been battling lyme for a few years. I think the vision and hearing symptoms came on pretty early on for me.

Hope this helps. I'm sure some of the others will offer more info.

Take care, Rich

Thanks for responding. So have your hearing and eye symptoms gotten better? I know that blindness is rare, but it does happen. It's really got me pretty freaked out, being that the intermittent blurry vision is fairly bad.

Craig,

Improver did a good job answering your questions. I just wanted to comment on the eye issues since I too have had a horrid time with that angle.

It would go from double vision, to blurry vision to TOTAL and complete black out darkness and it scared me to pieces. I am not a doctor but in my case, my LLMD feels this is a bartonella symptom and I'm being treated for that.

With treatment, it definitely gets better, I can say first hand. But as with all symptoms, during the treatment process, you will still have some bouts of these symptoms, so it does take time.

But it is reversible, so have your LLMD look into it for you and good luck.

Cathy

Hi there CraigC,

I'm not sure of the time frame for recovering. I've had lyme for 20 or 30 years and I've been in treatment since 2004.

Am a little better.

Have vision and hearing problems off and on since 2003. Sometimes the vision just gets blurry. For me sometimes meds clear it up or make it worse.

Hang in there. I'd ask the LLMD about recovery time. I think it varies depending on how long you've had it and what co-infections you have.

It varies too much from person to person to say. Plus, some people do more supportive things than others (diet, detox, herbs, rest, exercise, etc.).

I've been infected for 35 years, sick for going on five years, and am at 90% after 11 months of abx.

I am currently using Tindamax one week per month for the cystic form ... and it still knocks me down to 65% ... once I stop reacting to it, I will be about ready to switch to herbal protocols to ease off abx.

No. This is why Lyme treatment is so complicated, IMO.

I don't know about this.
