I have seen so many report stomach upset with Doxy, it seems that everyone who has taken Doxy has this problem.

My son had no stomach issues what so ever, neither did my brother in law.

Statistics say only 15% will experience stomach upset with Doxy.

If you did NOT have problems on Doxy..was it because you ate food or not, or did anything else "special".

Also, does anyone know if PPI's (proton pump inhibitors like Nexium) would help with stomach associated distress on doxy?

Thanks!

I didn't have any stomach upset on doxy, but I tolerate medication pretty well in general.

What helped me was to drink a very large glass of water with the doxy and take it with food (no dairy products though). I would also drink plenty of water throughout the day, so I didn't feel dehydrated.

Staying upright for at least an hour after taking the medication was also helpful. If I needed to rest up, I would rest against a pile of pillows to mainstain an upright position.

Sorry I don't know anything about PPIs. Your pharmacy might be able to answer that question.

I have no trouble taking Doxycycline. Can take 200mg with a bit of food and fairly easily on an empty stomach.

In order to alleviate any problems with Doxy I took it with food. If I took it on an empty stomach then I would not feel very good for about an hour or so after taking it.

I would have thought with all my stomach issues I would feel worse on Doxy, but I have no problems with it. It just made my stomach feel better.

I take it with food.

I started with food, but read that it was more effective without so I stopped the food with my pills and to my surprise I did not get the stomach ache.

I think my system got used to it. I have been on it for quite some time, and make sure that I don't eat anything 2 hours prior or after taking the pill. I take 200mg at at time.

Great! Thank you for the positive posts on Doxy!

My son had stomach issues before Doxy, nauseated constantly, on Doxy it disappeared.

I have had stomach aches my whole life that have really resolved with treatment, I am nauseated anyway (probably from the Ehrilchia) but just had to know if anyone didn't have problems.

This encourages me! Thanks! [Big Grin]

Problems the first night on an empty stomach! [Eek!]

It felt like it burned a hole in my esophagus.

After that, I've always taken it with food without any problems at all.

Hugs,

Geneal

I had no problems with 400mg/day of doxy, as long as I took it after a meal.

I too thought I would have problems. First night I had a sore stomach. Now I'm on 400 mg's a day and don't take the night time dose with any food and I'm ok. And I'm never ok on meds.

I started taking it with food (and lots of it!). This is the only was my system could handle it. Otherwise, it felt like bad morning sickness.
