I just started taking these herbs. I wanted to hear what everyone else had to say about them.
If you've taken them, did they help? I'm on day 2 and today with just 2 drops I can tell I'm different.
I feel more dizzy/lightheaded and achey. Maybe it's actually doing something!
I'm taking Cumanda in the morning and Samento at night.
Since I'm having a herx reaction with the 2 drops I won't increase it for a few days, maybe even a week.

I take both on the Cowden protocol. I am on my 3rd month. I do 30 drops of Cumanda before brekfast and dinner and 20 of Samento before bed (with tons of other stuff).
I didn't herx with the protocol when I started it but I had been on abx for 22 months before starting. I have since stopped abx and am just doing the Cowden and still feel great.
I have heard people have had to build up to the full dose. My LLMD has had good results with the Cowden protocol, especially for people who have made good progress on abx first.

Are you doing the Cowden protocol? Or are you just doing Samento and Cumanda? The Cowden protocol includes Burbur to help reduce the herx.
Are you working with your doctor on these herbs, or just on your own? These are powerful herbs and in my opinion you should not use them without the care of a doctor or naturopath.

Thanks Finette for the link. I didn't know about that site.
I'm not doing the Cowden's protocol, just Samento and Cumanda.
My local doctor told me about those 2 herbs when I first started treatment. He treats lots of people with Lyme Disease and said that the patients who took the herbs seemed to be better off.
I just blew it off because I didn't really believe in herbs and also b/c of the price.
I talked to my other doctor and asked about the herbs. He said he thinks they are good... he just believes that they should be taken with antibiotics. Which that is what I was planning on doing...taking it along with everything else.
I definitely can feel a difference. I feel very out of it and tired... which I assume is a good thing. I'm going to stick to just 2 drops right now since I seem to have a reaction to that...

I went through the Cowden protocol for 6 months after a year and a half of antibiotics. I'm now taking cumanda and quina (alternating) and samento at night.Symptoms continually lessen so that now I barely have any. They are strong herbs and you have to be diligent- the schedule takes some getting used to! This protocol and detox have been the best things I've ever done. I feel like I have my life back. My daughter is treated by Doctor Jones and is finally having many good days (my LLMD has suggested she try Cowden as well to really knock it out). Good luck! Karen

I heard on another forum you shouldn't take samento/cumanda with zith. I take both, and am also on zith/bactrim.
Anyone ever heard this?
The first few days I was dizzy, light-headed and had slight increased heart rate.

The knowledgeable member 'phsinvent' posted the following in Healingwell. If he/she doesn't mind I'd like to paste it here:
quote:I would probably avoid taking cat's claw with azithromycin because the quinolones(cipro, levaquin etc) are known to react with or inhibit each other. The exact make-up of cat's claw is hard to categorize but a majority of the molecules contain quinovic acid which is the base material used to make a quinolone. If you still take cats claw then it might be wise to seperate it from the azithromycin.
More inputs would be welcome.

googled macroglide quinolone interaction-Couldn't find much except this excerpt
Quinolones and macrolides might still be useful as components in multidrug therapy for brucellosis, since they show good anti-Brucella activity in compartments where the pH is ≥7.0, such as the serum. Streptomycin likewise loses ....

When I started the Cowden protocol I was still on Zith and Omnicef. My LLMD was the one who put me on all of them. I then stopped the Zith, then the Omnicef. Now I am just on the herbs.
I feel really good. I did do a number of different abx for 22 months and Mepron in there for 7.

I did cumanda and burbur for 5 1/2 months. It took me 3 months to build up to 15 drops/twice daily. I did get up to 19 drops/twice daily, but quit earlier this month because I started doxycycline. Too much herxing.
I think cumanda helped me stay steady without backsliding too much, and the burbur helped somewhat with herxing.
