I am on an abx challenge with Zith and I am nauseous pretty much all the time! I have not started Lyme tx, but I have had nausea problems for a long time.

My question is...what works for nausea, meds specifically? I have tried all kinds of "home" remedies, but to no avail.

I have also tried Zofran, but that has stopped working...unless it's IV, but that won't be happening any time soon, lol. [Roll Eyes]

Ginger works pretty well.

You can make some tea with fresh ginger - peel it, slice it & simmer it in a pot for about 15 minutes or so on a low fire.

Use an enamel or stainless steel pot - don't use aluminum.

I also used to eat crackers or rice cakes when I felt nauseaous.

Some people like peppermint tea, too.

I think some people take Marinol for nausea.

It's made from marijuana. It's a pharmaceutical drug.

You may be able to get it from a doctor - if you can find one who's open minded.

It's used pretty often with cancer patients.

Acupuncture has helped me alot too. It doesn't do much else for me, but it's amaxing how quikly it can reset my stomach.

I've notiec that this symptom has gone donw in severity as my tx continues..

My favorite is Phenergan or Promethazine. Also wonderful to help with sleep, which I can't do if my stomach is upset.

Unfortunately, Zithromax is notorious for causing stomach upset. Might want to let your physician know what you are experiencing.

Best,
Karen

I' always had major stomach upset even before meds, but I'm also on zithro and it does a # on my stomach.
Since I've tried every remedie for nausea all these yrs of stomach upset, the only thing that has worked for it is peppermint tea and or all natural ginger gravol.
Try them, they work!

Have not tried it yet, but was recommended to use
hydroxyzine HCL (oral syrup) as needed for nausea.
It is used as an antihistamine and anti-nausea med,
and requires a prescription.

Papaya tablets chew up 3 - nausea gone. OR Ginger capsules take 1 - in 20 minutes nausea gone.

This will help, I too am nauseated a lot.

Ginger in any form works wonders for the stomach, be it indigestion or nausea.

I suck on a couple tablets or sometimes just eat pickled or fresh ginger.

Crystallized ginger is good too but I've found it too sweet for my palate.

Ginger unfortunately makes me more nauseous! [bonk] I will talk to my LLMD after New Years and ask what he wants me to do. Thanks for your suggestions! [Smile]

Ginger Root extract pills, Tigan (prescription), and Flora-Jen (Acidoph) work the best for me. I have also heard of people saying Benydryl helps them with nausea also...but have not tried it for that purpose yet.
Zofran has helped in the past somewhat.

For some reasons, antihistamines stop nausea right away. I never would have know this unless told by a brilliant nurse practitioner.

Had to try the hydroxyzine HCL (oral syrup) last night. It worked great, just like benadryl, in quickly stopping nausea. However, just like benadryl, it also makes one sleepy. Which was a good thing for me, since I needed sleep!
