Had 2 removed last summer. They replaced one with gold crown. I got fever and chills afterwards.
I need 4 more removed. Is it worth it?
Would like to know how many had significant improvement after this procedure?

You must find a dentist that knows exactly what he is doing when removing amalgam fillings or other metals (gold, etc.)make sure he/she is very experienced.
The metals when removed can be swallowed or pushed further into the gum (root)by someone not experienced in safe & effective removal.
I have also heard it is good to use a heavy metal detox before during and after the procedure, check with your doctor.
I know 2 people who had all their metal fillings replaced with composite fillings, both are still sick as ever and have been for years. So ... I don't know if its worth it or not, I don't think it helped them.
Hope others can give you more insight.

You absolutely do NOT want both amalgams and gold in your mouth at the same time! That can cause a galvanic reaction, leaching more mercury into your body than just mercury alone. Please Google this to learn more.
I had my mercury fillings out in 1991 by a biological dentist and did the supplement protocol afterward. I felt very sick for a couple days after each removal, but the supplements helped. Had I known about chlorella, I would have taken it, but this was a long time ago.
My Lyme was active at that time, but I didn't know what it was. It went into remission for 12 years JUST from having the fillings removed.
I have had Lyme for 35 years and have been in treatment just under a year. Except for insomnia and needing more sleep than normal, I am pretty much back to normal ... except for my week on Tindamax.
I'm sure that not having a heavy metal burden has helped my recovery as it seems faster than average for someone as sick as I was for as long as I was sick. Last January, I couldn't walk without help, was too disoriented to leave the house alone, and hardly got out of bed.
I would recommend to anyone who is chronically ill to take that burden off their body .... if they're well enough to handle the removal and have someone with experience doing it for them. I know everyone does not get sick from amalgams, but I don't think they are helping those of us who are ... it's just one more thing for our immune systems to handle.

I have had muscle problems and pain since 1st one was put in as a child. With each one, more pain and muscle problems.
Feel like maybe allergic to them. Maybe that's where tmj pain comes in too. I am allergic to certain jewelry.
Not sure if it was all silver or nickle, it's been a while since I've worn any.

I had the last 3 removed in 5/06. I have since had significant improvement but how much is credited to removing the amalgams I will never know.
I did not get worse after the removals but I did, at the advice of the dentist, get a Vit C IV right afterward. That is supposed to remove the mercury.
I have immeasurable peace of mind knowing there is no mercury fillings in my mouth.

A doctor I went to who is well versed in these things told me to do it very, very slowly.
It's probably "6 of 1 or half dozen of another" with this.
I know I don't want that mercury in my head & I'd like to get it all out eventually.
Just get 1 mercury filling removed every few months.
I had some removed but I still have a bunch left. I ran out of money so I have to wait in any case.
Just make sure they use a dental dam & lots of suction.
You should also request some kind of breathing filter so you don't breathe in the vapors when the metal is being removed.
I think I recall that breathing in the vapors is especially hazardous.
There are a bunch of supplements to take as well. 6goofykids recommended chlorella & I think there are some others.
Just take it slow is my suggestion...

Chlorella has helped me greatly in the last 4 mths as I have one tooth at a time done.
I started with fillings of silver that were small and some were years and years old. I'm scheduling about 4 weeks-6 weeks between.
A silver crown that was very old, maybe 20 yrs popped off during flossing early Nov this year. Read recent posts about crowns, swallowing and breaking off of crowns, etc.
Lymetoo, myself and a couple others have learned some stuff about this in the last few months.
I can't answer your specific question yet, because I've got lots more dental work to be done. Money is big issue with dental work, even with insurance. I can't image without insurance, like some.

I had all of my amalgams out starting in November of 2006. The last came out in February of 2007. I had 11 in all, and on those 11 I had 6 crowns, 5 were gold.
A biological dentist did the work in quadrants in two major pushes.
So in November I had the first quadrant done at which time he put on temporary crowns. In two weeks I went back for the permanent crowns and the second quadrant.
We delayed the next two sections until after the holidays last year, so I had a two month break.
I got sick after the first half was done, and I got sick after the second half was done.
On my doctor's advice I had been taking Pectasol (modified citrus pectin) and lots of vitamins and supplements throughout the whole removal process.
I also started on chlorella right before the second removal I think and have been taking it ever since. I had also been taking the Pectasol all along up until last week.
I feel significantly better this year compared to last year, but how much of that is the removal and how much is the supplements or treatments (mostly alternative) I've had I don't know.
I have not begun chelation of any kind other than natural sources. I have mold toxicity and my doctor does not want me to begin formal chelation until the mold is taken care of.

I just finished removing my fillings about a month ago as well as one root canal.
Im not sure how much it has helped me but i never planned on it being a miracle.
I had some caviteis in the amalgam filled teeth and alot of them were corroding so they needed to go anyways.
On top of that i just didnt want them in my mouth anymore becuase of all the dangers ive read...whether completely true or not.
I think lyme is a multifaceted illness and borrelia is not the only issue.
Im all for doing everything possible to regain health and think that if there is anything that could possibly burdeing the body its best to get rid of it.
I will let you know more as the months pass. I have not done any form of chelation yet but im still considering it.

I was wondering how I would go about finding a dentist in my area who could remove these for me?
I did talk to my dentist about this and he said he could remove them, but it sounds like you better have someone that knows what they are doing.
He also said that this would be covered under my insurance as they would just bill for "fillings", but still the lack of experience is really pushing me to find someone who knows how to do this.
I had all of my amalgams removed and my one root-canaled tooth removed almost 2 years ago. I did have Lyme at the time but had not been diagnosed. Over the past 8 years I'd had several doctors postulate that some of my health issues might be caused by the mercury and other metals in my amalgams.
I finally decided to bite the bullet and have them removed and replaced, along with extracting the root canaled tooth when I got a positive diagnosis for chronic epstein barr virus. I had read that sometimes people are able to resolve chronic EBV by removing amalgams.
It worked for me. My chronic EBV disappeared after the healthy dental revision. Of course, I suppose it could have been coincidence that it went away (and there is always a possibility that the EBV will come back). But, I kid you not, about 48 hours after removing the amalgams alot of my EBV-type symptoms were gone.
I used a biological, mercury-free dentist for the procedures. I also had IV vitamin C therapy at the end of the procedures. I couldn't take chlorella due to an allergy to it, but I took gobs of garlic per my dentist and also used sodium alginate as an intestinal mopper for the metals.
I haven't done any formal chelation yet.
I had a total of 17 amalgams in my mouth!
My LLMD says he feels that I probably won't ultimately be able to kick all of my health issues until I detox the metals. It's just a bit of a sticky wicket though because from the reading I've done, chelation has to be done carefully and the timing has to be right for the individual. That includes, taking into account all current infections and treating them.
BTW, I also had undiagnosed adrenal fatigue at the time of my amalgam removal. In fact, my dentist was the first of 4 different doctors to tell me that he felt I needed to get tested for adrenal fatigue. My only regret is that I didn't jump on his suggestion and get tested back then so that my adrenal glands could have been supported in some way during the procedures.
Hope this helps.

I've had as many as 50 or more amalgams in and out of my mouth. I don't have any now. So I have that peace of mind.
Just because you had your amalgams out doesn't mean you've solved anything. Think how complicated the mouth is with interconnections to the entire body. When you eat a food, the rest of the body is alerted it knows all the components and how best to use it. Just imagine the intelligence to do this single facit.
Amalgams are part of the problem and should be removed as safely as possible. But if you got sick, you then have to ask questions like root canals, cavitations, TMJ issues. You had already compromised the structure of your mouth by having those amalgams in there for sooooo long.
IMO taking the amalgams out doesn't solve the problem it is only part of a larger solution. If you had wisdom teeth taken out and you've been sick, I'm guessing you have compromised your TMJ and created a plaque/biofilm on the bone where the old teeth would have been.
So a quick sample chronology:
between ages 1-20 you had 12 amalgams these amalgams slowly built up mercury throughout your tissue the body counters by increasing the fungi to hide the mercury from the body between ages 20-50 you had periodontal surgery root canals, wisdom teeth removed the fungi creates toxic waste incouraging strep and staph Today : you remove the amalgams
Hopefully this simplifies why just getting rid of amalgams doesn't completely work. It is not a magic pill.
What I've done:
3 amalgams replaced, mouth splint for tmj, 4 cavitations corrected, 1 root canal re-treated. And yes I'm much better and it had to be done to get well.

you said "I got sick after the first half was done, and I got sick after the second half was done."
can you tell us what kind of sick?
in one week i had all my amalgams out and one root canal. i think it was 10-12 teeth altogether.
at first -immediately-my insomnia went away. long term, severe insomnis. and it is one of symptoms associated with mercury so i figured that is why.
however-i took some oral vit c but did not rest after the amalaam removal. i had to travel which is hard, and 3 weeks later had a colonsocpy and had car trpouble and other stressful things inbetween i ended up with a bad cold.sinus chest infection. and now just feel exhausted.
i also know i have cavitations in my jaw bone that need to be removed.
so i am wondering if you got "Herx" sick, or "common cold" sick or something else. and how you got over it. thanks.

I don't believe DLP252 posts here any more.
I had flu-like symptoms when I had my fillings removed.

In February 2007 I had all 4 amalgam filling removed by a biological dentist(in two visits about a week apart).
I was taking chlorella and dmsa at the time. The dentist did all the right things-used the dams etc.
Several days after the first two amalgams were removed I started to get severe headaches, especially around the occipital muscles. The headaches were extreme and unlike anything I had ever experienced.
About 6 weeks after the headaches started I had a visit with my llmd and out came the needles. DMPS and procaine. You don't even want to know how many needles I got that day but my headaches disappeared immediately, along with pretty much every other symptom I had.
Fast forward a year and a half later and I still do DMPS injections and mercury is still a huge issue for me. I suspect it will take a long, long time for me to get it out of all of it's hiding places.
I never really paid much attention to the whole mercury issue, that is until I decided to get my amalgams removed and experienced acute mercury toxicity myself.

My husband had all of his removed about a year after he got Lyme.
Now, ten years after he got Lyme, he is as sick as ever and unable to work. He definitely did not see any benefit from spending thousands of dollars to have them removed, along the Lyme lines at least.
