Hi all,

On Monday I'm scheduled for surgery to remove my gallbladder. I'm just starting my seventh month on Rocephin IV and am 90% back to where I was prelyme. I've been treating on antibiotics a total of 19 months.

I was told upfront before starting the Rocephin that my gallbladder could end up coming out. Even with Ursidiol daily I couldn't hang on to it.

My question is for anyone out there who has lost their gallbladder due to Rocephin IV Therapy. How are you doing? Any truth to fatty foods being a big no no after surgery?

Any iformation on how you are doing after gall bladder surgery would be most appreciated.

Barb

I lost mine to Rocephin after only 6 weeks of IV. Please, Please, Please make sure to tell the surgeon to also clean out the bile duct of any "sludge" or stones while they are in there. I had my gallbladder removed rather abruptly and did not know I needed to ask them to do this.

I have had MANY problems with continued pain in the duct area. If I had known ahead of time....I would have INSISTED that they also check the duct.

I lost my gallbladder to rocephin almost 2 years ago. I didn't have a problem with fats, pain before, I was told that I had several stones. To avoid pain and attacks, knowing I was going to be on rocephin for the long haul, I decided to have it taken out.

Good luck - it'll be ok. I just finished my second round of rocephin from July to Christmas week. Just be careful. I didn't listen to my doc and did regular shopping, picking up right after surgery. Due to that,I ended up with a hernia and another surgery. The docs know what they're doing. I didn't.

I had mine removed almost 2 years ago. Now, if I eat things like rich, creamy ice cream or soups like crab bisque, I will get pain in my right side. Also intestinal distress. If I know I am going to eat something like that, it helps to take digestive enzymes with the meal.

I also lost my gall bladder to Lyme, though it was before I was dx.

I can still eat spicy foods without a problem. But if I eat something super-rich (I'm thinking of a very decadent lobster alfredo I had), I definitely react.
