Since many of us have been in treatment for awhile (19 months), I thought I'd pose the question:
What antibiotic gave you back a Good Quality of Life? For some of us it might have been one antibiotic, for others a combination.
For some you may not be there yet, for others you are now in charge of Lyme. You're back to work, volunteering, you have a decent quality life.
I'd be so interested in knowing what in particular put you back in the "land of the living" once again.
Also how long did you take the antibiotic/s??

I recently started Doryx brand of doxy. It seems to be helping my Lyme of the gut. Anyone use it? It is unfortuately quite expensive.

Biaxin. I started 18 months ago on amoxi, went 3 months, biaxin was added and within a month i was starting to have good days. Still on abx and been on biaxin most of the time, but it was a subtle but sure slow improvement. Bicillin was added in late summer shot my CD57 from 58 to 140 in only shots. But I still have viral issues and a co-infections to go.

8 months of Cefzil, and Tindamax added at month 2. Combined with Benicar and Vitamin-D3 supplements.

IV Rocepihn- I was on orals for a year and they did notihng because I was so late Neuro-

Minocycline took my years of diarrhea away within a day - literally.
Metronidazole along with artemisinin helped with some of my symptoms initially, too (sinuses, ears, eyes).
But then improvement stops and starts going backwards.

I have not been on tx that long, but Rifampin has helped me SOOOO much (I have Bartonella as co-infection).
Azithromycin was also helpful for me but I could not stay on it as it made my stomach very angry at me.
I'm also on Doxy and Biaxin, but don't know how much they have helped, as I started noticing myself getting MUCH better after taking Rifampin.

Probably my experience is atypical, but after a couple of years of getting ill from untreated lyme and other TBDs, just the first 10 days on doxy (400mg/day) was a miraculous and positive experience.
Just those first 10-11 days of doxy killed something that has never fully came back.
Although I am still treating (it wasn't a 2-week miracle cure for all of my many symptoms), nothing has had the immediate strong positive impact of the first two weeks of doxy. Every other abx has been a slower, positive experience.

last year i was on erythromycin for a couple weeks and felt great. it was for a sinus inf or bladder inf i think.
made my fevers and back pain go away, and i felt great temporarily. i don't think i woudl be able to go on it long term tho

I'm probably atypical for this post, but it was clindamycin 150mg 3-4x/day that instantly worked for my longterm Lyme case. Within a week, the fibromyalgia pain went to zero. That joy lasted six months and then the med stopped working.

the combination of rocephin, biaxin and plaquenil was the best. lived a normal life again, even went off abx for a year. but relapsed.

Ketek was the first antibiotic that helped me at all. Then Factive/Doryx got me back to good health.

i wouldnt say it was a good quality of life, but it was the best ive had so far.

Doxy for me was the 'miracle cure'. In bed for 4 mos prior to treatment. Just 200 mgs of doxy daily for 6 weeks got me functioning - kicked out the skin burning, difficulty swallowing, deep-muscles charlie horses, & inability to sleep. Horrible collapse at week 6 centering on brain 'buzzing'& other neuro stuff. Up to 400 mgs. Most physical symptoms gone, gone, gone (11 months into it)but mental have been slower to leave.
Recently changed to Doryx due to some increased nausea with doxy. Works well for me!
Had a huge initial spike in wellness on doxy, then a leveling off. For past 4-5 months, progress is hard to really point to. But I have an increasing FEELING OF WELLNESS, apart from the continuation of mental stuff, so I know that SOMETHING is being achieved.
Apparently I was very lucky to have no difficulties with doxy or doryx. Good luck in finding the one that gives you a good quality of life. I had no life until doxy.

got to be flagyl. unfortunately the doctor gave it to me for c. diffcile and would not renew. rats....it got rid of headaches, tinnitus, droopy eyelid, etc. it was a godsend....

I used Doryx recently for a sinus infection. It was SOOOO much easier on my stomach than doxy. Yep...very pricey.

I have been on 3 grams of amoxicillin for 2 months as well as Malarone for my Babesia. Doxy was prescribed for mycoplasma but I couldn't keep anything down with it. I am going to attack the mycoplasa when babesia is a bit more under control. I am feeling much better. Although it seems I had progress really fast (maybe after 2 weeks) and have hit a leveling off point.
