My LLMD Dr. C suggested that I take Alli, an over the counter diet supplement, for biotoxins. He thinks my continuing symptoms and herxing on abx is due to the fact I can't excrete biotoxins fast enough.
Has anyone hear have any experience with this supplement?
Thanks for your input.

Hi CherylSue,
I have not heard of this for biotixins, but I looked it up because I was interested.
"Just as Xenical, Alli contains a drug called ``Orlistat.'' In really simple terms, orlistat absorbs the fat from foods you eat every day, from fast food to ice cream."
So I am guessing that its binding properties are what the doctor thinks will work for biotoxins --similar to cholystyramine?
That is very interesting! Has your LLMD seen success with other patients using this? I know that cholystyramine has a lot of side effects, so much so that a lot of people can't tolerate it even with the Actos. I'm interested in the Alli if it might be easier to tolerate than the cholystyramine.
My one worry is that I seem to recall that there were major problems with Xenical, although I can't remember what they were. Of course, another problem I have is that one of the possible side effects of Alli, I read, is uncontrollable explosive diarrea!
Up for anyone else who has info ....

Alison (love your towels!)
You have the right of it. I hear bowel leakage is a problem with the Alli, and I'm scared to try it. I don't have a problem now. I'm a regular girl. I take 2 magnesium malate pills a day, and I'm good.
Dr. C. said that biotoxins are fat soluble and the Alli would help exrete those toxins. I guess I have a problem releasing the biotoxins from the ABX.
Doxycycline is the only ABX that I can tolerate. It actually gives me an energy boost an hour after I take it. Herbal cumanda does the same thing now after I herxed my way up to the therapeutic dosage.
I've been going in a hot tub as often as I can hoping to eliminate toxins. The trick is not to stay in too long.
Dr. C said he did have patients on it. Take it 2 hours apart from meds.
Hope this helps.

Wouldn't charcoal be just as effective?
And, remember, any binder will also take out the good stuff.

bowel leakage!!! yikes. that's risky business. is that the drug that advises wearing dark pants???

Wouldn't Alli bind to the good fats as well? If you are on this long-term, I would think that could be very dangerous.

kelmo- I seem to recall in the dark and dank recesses of my mind, Shoemaker talking about -- ah yes, I think it was one of the videos on his website maybe -- anyway he made passing mention of the fact that they had tried charcoal and bentonite clay and it just didn't do the trick as far as binding to the toxins.
LZO - good point about the good fats. The amount I spend on my super duper krill oil, I'd dang well better be getting my money's worth and I'd be really ticked off if it got all sucked up by another med!
