I have Lyme disease and three co-infections (just recently diagnosed). I see my LLMD in Feb. but I'm currently breastfeeding my third child. I was wondering if anyone had to stop breastfeeding because of the antibiotics and other supplements? I want to start weening her before I see the doctor so that I can start treatments as soon as possible.

Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

I have been on zithro while breastfeeding--no problem.

BUT- tick borne diseases can be passed through breast milk, so keep a careful eye on your kid for symptoms. That being said, my 3d child seems perfectly fine even though I got lyme before I was pregnant with him. Dr. J would not recommend treating him because he is symptom-free, has NO fatigue.

Some of the co-infections require different tx and may require weaning.

Hope that helps.

What are some signs to look for in a child who may have had Lyme passed through pregnancy and/or breast milk? How old would the child be before the symptoms showed up?

My daughter had LD symptoms at birth. She had very low apgar scores, which is how they "rate" babies when they are born.

She was listless and wouldn't cry. When her extremities were lifted they just fell back down.

She had to be taken to NICU for a few hours and then was fine. As she got older she had other symptoms.

She had lots of food allergies, so much so that I had to breastfeed her until she was 16 months old.

We were undiagnosed at the time. As she got older she would get this weid rash/bumps with joint pain.

She went through a bought of anemia. She has dark circles under her eyes. I can't think of any other symptoms right now.

We weren't keeping track of symptoms then because I didn't know we had LD. I always had a feeling that something just wasn't right.

The doctors said she was faking the joint pain. When a 4 year old hurts so bad she can't get out

of bed and walk to the living room on Christmas morning when she knows there are presents, she is NOT faking it!

That is when I went investigating myself and found this sight. They directed me to our LLMD.

We are very lucky! And MANY thanks to Lymenet!!!!!! Take care and watch that little one for anything unusual.

My former llmd said so breast feeding.

Lyme bacteria can be spread to the baby via breast milk if you are not on specific antibiotics.

I would contact your llmd and tell them this asap.

Unfortunately, I've had Lyme and co-infections since birth (Call it a family inheritance- my mother has Lyme and gave it to me and my sister.) so my three children probably already have it. My concern is taking antibiotics while breastfeeding. Is it too much for the baby or will it actually help her in the long run?
