Roxithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat respiratory tract, urinary and soft tissue infections. Roxithromycin is derived from erythromycin, containing the same 14-membered lactone ring. However, an N-oxime side chain is attached to the lactone ring. It is also currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of male-pattern hair loss.[1]
Roxithromycin is available under several brandnames, for example Surlid, Rulide, Biaxsig, Roxar and Roximycin. Roxithromycin is not available in the United States.

Yes, I have....about 2 weeks in it..I stopped herxing as much....but got the feeling it was still killing them. I dont know yet...the verdict is still out for me...but it would be great if it works...certainly crosses the bbb....I felt it right away after zithromax.

Rulid (roxithromycin) w/ Plaq (hydroxychloroquine) Rulid (roxithromycin) is said to have the best BBB penetration of the big four macrolides. It is approved worldwide EXCEPT North America so you will have to get it from offshore sources (not difficult, see below).
It is available generic and is MUCH cheaper than it's competitors Zithro and Biaxin. BTW, Biaxin goes off patent this month, May '05, and Zithro goes off patent in Nov. Both should get a lot cheaper then if you decide to wait and if you have a fall-back med that will prevent relapse until then.
I took Rulid for a month with Plaquenil and noticed improved memory and clearer thinking. Had tried a month of Biaxin XL with Bactrim, (good) then Doxy, Mino, Vantin, (little if any improvement). It feels like the Rulid/Plaq combo with pulses of Flagyl or Tini are the most effective for this "Colorado" strain. --So far, fingers crossed.

Pharmacokinetics When taken before a meal, roxithromycin is very rapidly absorbed, and diffused into most tissues and phagocytes. Due to the high concentration in phagocytes, roxithromycin is actively transported to the site of infection. During active phagocytosis, large concentrations of roxithromycin are released.

Just had a visit w/ my LLMD in Ct and he recently had a patiant referred to him by a prominant LLMD in Ct b/c that LLMD was not getting anywhere w/ him b/c he also had a sleep problem (my LLMD is a neurologist who apperantly has experience in this area.
Well just before he sent him off to my LLMD the patiant started Roxy/bactrim.
When he got to my LLMD he started doing therapy w/ an Ondamed machine.
Well, long story short - the pataints cd 57 shot up into 100's afterwords.
They are not sure if it was the roxy/bactrim combo or the ondamed but my LLMD is looking into the use of this abx combo also.
So it would appear the word is getting out.

As roxithromycin is now off patent there won't be a push for FDA approval. here is the scoop on zitromax...believe me this is the manufacturers data. ITs VERY similar to roxy, it does concentrate in tissues, does jump on board phat..cells to assist the attack. BUT, it has not been ever asserted to cross the BBB. AND I took it and didnt seem to feel much of anything in the brain. I started the roxy, and instantly felt some banging, pinging or something in the brain, interestingly in BOTH sides, AND BOTH EARS. I got my mom on roxy bac after seeing a duck for a recent infection, duck gave her 3 doxy pills, test came back neg and she said dont worry forget about it. Well, after on roxy bac my mom had a severe nightmere, she had a dream, that a tick was biting her in the back...she could even feel it in the dream...the pain of the tick bite in the dream woke her! She felt bugs crawling on her back..she looked and the exact spot where she had been infected 2 months before had inflammed and looked fresh! But it was not real..she strange herx effect I believe!! Anyway...I did live blood mircoscopy after ext use of abx for about 2 mo, and finally on roxy and bac for 2 weeks...I saw only 2 "sticks" (segattes) and they looked like they where trying to bind perhaps to save each other? They seemed unable to bind in the 10 mins I was watching..but I had THOUSANDS of smaller bugs swimming freely in the blood spot. I believe this is bart...uneffected by roxy. I Switched to tetra and cipro today and herxing badly...but not lyme herx something else. Roxy and all erthros are not to be used with cipro like drugs...they block it. So, on tetra while seeing what this cipro does. I am already herxing...pain in feet and hands...terrible headache and the runs are back...I almost feel feverish. So I def think roxy did wonders for my lyme in just 2 weeks...but I got bart too and I will switch back to roxy asap.

5-7 day shipping generic roxy from india...its real...it even tastes ethro likish drug.

I had roxy, a lot of it.. For me zithromax worked far far better.
Also the BBB crossing stuff has to be viewed very cautiosly. The BBB claim was made using surgical samples from people that had brain tumours removed... one dose not know to what degree the BBB was compromized by the tumour. It is also reasonable to assume that most of the tissue that was removed (and analyzed) was in fact tumour, which is known to have a badly disrupted BBB.
Still rulid is a different antibiotic and it might work on some strains so it might be well worth a try.... however.... a miracle drug it is not.

I agree with you, but you have to admit there is a study that showed roxy crossed bbb...and I beg of you to produce any study that says zithro does. And how do you know you did well on zithro? I had alot of severe pains on zithro...when I switched to roxy the pains went away, whos to say its because its not working...unless we actually see inside the blood how do we know that the absence of pain is clearly meaning its not working. It seems plausable that bactrim and roxy relaxes these bugs so they dont die the same way...perhaps dying more gracefully? Do u follow me? Of course its just a thought though. I am going to do follow up microscopy and see what happens after i kill off my bart. Cipro and roxy is contradicted.

1 more thing. roxy is commonly used for many brain based infections. And aids pat. found it useful to kill otherwise infections that other drugs had failed and the aids pat. died. Roxy saved these people look it up!

My roxi+ bactrim(gasser prtcl.) experience: tow courses done, months apart
first course X5 weeks: very goood results
second course,same timeline: absolutely no effect, which isn't to imply that it was worthless; it may have worked but i wasn't manifesting jarish-herx. effects.
herx effects may have manifested week(s) later which is often the case,though,with side effects which can manifest this late and longre, after finishing a course of abx.

Love Roxithromycin. 600-900mg per day. Combined with bactrim, even better! I've been telling Djf2005 about this combo for ages. Oral zithro was the most worthless of anything i've done. Roxithromycin also has the strongest antimalarial effect of all the macrolides.

I have a scope and watched results with this drug and others.
I gave up hope mostly on all abx virturally. I am exploring other medications (off label use drugs) and having more success.
Roxy seemed to kill but unable to break down the biofilms was my impression. Zith actually seemed better, which is pretty bad since zith was quite useless to me.

Jamescase, thanks for the link to Sundrug. I ordered some Roxy today. I'm having trouble getting my insurance co to authorize extended use of zithromax, so maybe I'll try this in it's place.
