I have found a doctor that will monitor me 2x's a day and is very experienced in lyme disease treatment. She does high dose IV abx 2 times a day and says she has ways to keep herx reactions bearable. She also treat all co-infections and does nutrition and supplements, ect.

I was wondering how long people are typically on IV's before they are ready to pull them out. I have read several stories about some people that were really sick for a long time, and were well enough to pull them out within a year.

Does this seem to be true for most IV abx users?

I had IV Rochepin treatment for 8 mos (for Lyme). I really think it "got me out of the woods"...no pun intended.

I have had Lyme for 20 years, and while I could handle the herx from high dose ABX (IV Claforan every eight hours), my liver could not. Make sure this doctor plans to monitor your blood constantly.

For the record, I had to go off Claforan because my blood counts went haywire. I've since tried other IV medications in lower doses, but in my 5th month of treatment I'm still extremely sick.

If you've been sick for many years, don't expect a miracle just because you go on IV-- it may take time, though a year is a more realistic expectation than some people start out with.

Lyme treatment is also more complicated if you have co-infections (I had Bart, Babs, and RMSF), so if you have them, bear in mind that it will probably take longer than it would otherwise.

Good luck!

This doctor monitors you everyday and checks your blood tests weekly. From what I have heard she can keep your liver enzymes down with supplements from a friend seing her now...

Don't forget if you are on Rocephin to add in Actigall to help protect your gallbladder. It doesn't always prevent damage, but it sure does help.

Good luck, I wish I could remember the dosage, but it was done 5 days a week, someone will come along soon and give you dosages.

HUGS,

Hi Byron,

I have been on IV Rocephin since 11/11/07. My doseage is: 2grams 2x daily, 7 days per week. Blood is checked weekly.

I have been sick for over 15 years, neuro-lyme. Right now I am just sitting up from a 6 day migraine. I have had a *few* good days, but mostly I am no better yet.

Oh yes, I am better in one way that is a BIG PLUS, I sleep through the night 8 hours. Only slept for 3 or so before IV Rocephin.

I do intend to get well, just don't know when [Wink]

I'm going to stay away from the rocephrin if possible.
