What do you use to keep your picc line dry when you shower? I am trying to find something that I will be able to get on and off by myself because i don't have anyone who can help me with it. Posted by LuLuFlorida (Member # 12066) on :
Glad press and seal works wonders. I just take it out of the cardboard box and wrap it around my arm a few times. Works much better then the PICC line cover I bought online.

Glad Press and Seal, a little masking tape at both ends for a little extra comfort if you're anal like me.

When I had a picc line for 6 months in bought a Xerosox and it was fantastic. It held up really well, was still in great shape when the picc line was removed and I never had any trouble with it leaking or letting water in. You can search the internet for them (here's one website that has them - http://www.drycorp.com/ ). When I had mine I had one that covered my whole arm from above the picc line and covered my hand (like a big mitten) but now they have ones designed for picc lines that just cover the elbow area.

I used a newspaper plastic sleeve with rubber bands on the top and bottom of it tightly!!! (was cheap*)!

I cannot remember where I purchased it but it was a blue waterproof/rubbery-like sleeve that I put on my arm and then put a rubberband around the bottom to keep it tight.
My LLMD at the time gave me a website. But I bet if you googled for "cast covers for showering", etc. you could find a place that sells these kind of supplies.
I grew to hate that blue sleeve...but it REALLY worked.

Maybe I am mis-understanding - but I hope you don't shower/bathe while dripping. A sure route for water to enter the site even with any type of wrap you use.
If you're just talking about the little extension of the line that hangs out of your skin, yes, by all means that needs to be covered as well.
I have used picc lines for over 4 years and never had an infection from getting it wet. Used a plastic bag sleeve and put rubber bands on each end. Also tried not to get it too wet by holding my arm up, rather then down.
