Wierd--when I apply pressure to it, the hard cartilage at
the base of my ear hurts. Is this Lyme? Does this disease
cause gumma formation like syphilis?

I'm sorry but I laughed out loud at the "gummas", my sugar-craving mind instantly thought of gummy bears!
Yep--ear pain is a very common Lyme symptom. One of my first ones, deep ear pain. Joyous.

Yep. I had severe ear pain too.
It went away when I began working with an integrative doctor who focused on building up my immune system.
Along with diet change and supplementation, he focused heavily on IV glutathione to improve my detoxification. I also had the last of my amalgams replaced at this time, so I can't say any one thing that did the trick.
I didn't take abx until May of this year following another tickbite and immediate relapse. After months on the abx, my sinuses became congested again (had suffered this for yrs prior to lyme treatment)and my ears began to ache a little.
I told my LLMD I thought yeast was back. (prior to abx, I was able to clear yeast without drugs)She put me on Nizoral and very quickly the symptoms subsided.
So, think yeast. A change of diet and be sure probiotics are taken. But if you are on abx, you will probably need an anti-fungal too.
