I have been put on Diflucan by my LLMD for systemic yeast, and he suggested I do the protein only diet for a week as well, which I did!
I feel like it has been helping, the all over pain and fatigue has somewhat lifted, and I don't feel that "hit by a bus" feeling when I wake up! Yeah!!!
Sooooo, he only gave me 7 days of it. So now that the 7 days are done, what do I do? I can't eat meat forever, and I am SO tired of it!
I am afraid all my symp. are going to return!
What is the standard protocol with Diflucan? Do people stay on it long term?
Before I started it I was also, and still am on Nystatin (12 pills a day) and have eaten a pretty clean diet: no sugar, minimal bread, lots of veggies and meat, no friut....Will I ever get to eat normally again?
So what do I do now?? Thanks for any imput!! Laura

Laura,
Everyone has different needs... and I never did a special diet, I can barely eat crackers let alone meat all the time... but I initially took Diflucan for one week.
Since then, I have taken it every third day. For any minor symptoms, I use a little topical cream, but I have had no major problems.
A solid probiotic, yogurt, and other supplements can be helpful, too.
Also, if your yeast does come back and is totally out of control, Vfend is THE anti-fungal to use. However, it's about $2000.00/month and you have to take it constantly, so if you can successfully pulse Diflucan, it'll save you some $$$!
Good luck, and I'm sure lots more suggestions will come after mine-- you might want to look at yesterday's posts-- there was a thread about bacterial vaginitis and yeast, with lots of recommendations for supplements from the ladies.
Also... this probably goes without saying, but be nice to your nether region right now.
This is not the time to shave off all its hair-- that's protective hair and can help you. Don't douche or use regular soaps-- they are irritants. Sperm, spermicide, and non-cotton underwear are other things that can make your problems worse or make them feel worse.
Hope that helps a bit. Check the other thread for tips on supplements, etc.-- it was a good one for us girls!

I have a non-lyme friend who had gone to her gyno complaining of stabbing pains near her uterus, bloating, etc. They did an ultrasound and everything looked fine.
I was shocked when she told me the doctor prescribed Diflucan, one pill everyday for a couple of weeks. Keep in mind she wasn't having any traditional yeast infections and here was a traditional doctor thinking some form of systemic yeast. Her and I were both shocked when all of the pains/bloating subsided.
She is on maintenance at this point and takes 1 Diflucan/week and no problems.

I have read in Buhner's book often 25 days of 200mg will clear candida and many times neuro lyme patients that aren't getting well, may feel 100% better.
as per above: diflucan for 2-3 months minimum with no abx vfend is best and still used 2-3 months preferably without abx. probiotics may replenish flora but not necessarily. no yeast of fungal products including mushrooms.
systemic yeast will not go away by itself and may be the cause of many symptoms after lyme treatment and coinfection tx are complete.
massive systemic yeast presents as symptomatic as lyme. yeast are fungus not all fungi are yeast so you should treat yeast and fungal infections together.

I was just diagnosed with Lyme Disease by a naturopathic doctor yesterday. I have had issues with yeast for years and have found something that works after years of trying everything the doctor and health food stores had. It is Fivelac and I get it off Amazon, but it is available from different sources on the internet. It was created in Japan in 2002, and it is a type of bacteria hat eats yeast. I have been using it for about a year, and now just use it for maintenance once every other day or so. It has worked better than anything, and I have not had any symptoms since about two or three weeks after I started it. It is a powder you put in water and it tastes like lemon water. It is about $45 for a month supply which is cheaper than Diflucan, which is very hard on your liver too, and also caused me to have flare ups whenever I went off the drug. Something new I am trying is Tru Chocolates by TruNutrition. My naturopath recommended it yesterday. It is a chocolate you eat after every meal. It suppositively kills yeast. I ordered some today b/c it tastes really good. It contains Xylitol which is sweet like sugar but does not raise your glycemic index. It is $18 for a bag of 15 chocolates. I have tried the yeast diets and I really don't believe they are possible. I know the Fivelac works, and I am willing to try the chocolates b/c she seemed very informed and in-line with everything else I have done for better health. Hope this helps.

I was on diflucan 3 months with no abx to PREPARE for the abx. I don't think week is enough.
If there's no way you can get another prescription, here are some natural routes you can take for yeast (besides the diet):
These will help restore your gut but they will not KILL active yeast (which diflucan and nystatin will do).
I think you need to ask for more.

Be careful with the grapefruit seed extract, there are many antibiotics and suppliments that warn against mixing them with grapefruit. Check with your pharmacy or do some reading.
My daughter was on diflucan for months. You need to make sure and get your liver checked every month while on it as it is VERY hard on the liver.
She took all the above mentioned suppliments also along with probiotics. She is now on nystantin (sp) it isn't supposed to be as hard on the liver.
HUGS,
