I've been on 3000 mg amox for a couple of weeks. Prior to that I was on a lower dose of 1500 mg for about 3 months. I take about 8 very good probiotics a day and lots of yogurt, but my stomach just feels wrong. It's very bloated, gassy and I sometimes feel nausea as well. Is this just the abx? Any suggestions are appreciated.

I had this problem while on abx. JUST TERRIBLE.
I started taking more PRO biotics...you can't take too much. I took 2pills after every meal.
It solved the problem.

Glycolax is a prescription for constipation, works so gently and well....a powder mixed into hot water. There is an over the counter now.
Ask the pharmacist.

GOOD LUCK. THIS CAN BE SOOOOO UNCOMFORTABLE.

I am on 4500 amoxicillin a day and have been for years and don't get this, thank goodness. I just wrote to Vic on the Help STOMACH thread that Saccharomyces Boulardii is a good thing to take for your guts & tummy.

You can buy it at any health food store & it keeps candida & c. difficle at bay.

Best wishes,
Sarah

Sometimes the yogurt can be counterproductive. It is for me. Makes my yeast tendencies even worse.

What brand of probiotics are you taking?

Are you following a good anti-yeast diet??

Check to see if your probiotics have an ingredient called FOS.. or some mile long word that looks like the initials would be FOS.

That ingredient can cause the problems you describe.

Also.. even though you may not be allergic to milk.. some of the probiotics made from milk products can cause this also.

I tend to get what you describe when taking too MUCH probiotics.. and can only tolerate a small amount.

Those are just things to consider... brought to you by the one who doesn't have that problem right now.. and is really glad cause I just ate 6 tablespoons of raw garlic.

Uggggggggggggggg...

I'm having a similar problem right now with Amoxicillin, and I didn't have it with the other antibiotics I took. I also take 20-30 probiotics capsules a day so I really think I'm taking plenty!

Perhaps it's simply a side effect of Amoxicillin?

Oh My Tincup, I envy that ability. If I could eat 6 tblspns of raw garlic I should think I'd be well on my way!!!!!

For now, I settle for honey.

____

But to the topic, I notice I can only tolerate a limited amount of probiotics. Sometimes the probiotics cause this, rather than the antibiotics.
