I started having serious ER type stomach pain two days ago. The LLMD put me on protonix because he thinks it may be acid from all the abx. I am taking probiotics and sach boulardi also. It felt like a heart attack..different from any acid type pain I have ever had...almost like an allergic reaction where my stomach was bloated and I felt like I could not breathe? I have been on the IV Rcoephin for ten weeks tomorrow and it has helped so I am afraid. Any ideas?

Monica,
I'm seven months into Rocephin Treatment and lost my gallbladder Jan 3rd. My gallbladder attacks were so severe I ended up in the ER twice.
If it's gallbladder/gallstones, you'll know. The pain is severe that you have to go the ER. Mine were never on the fence where I didn't know what it was.
The good news is I am feeling good and on the mend.

The LLMD in Chico gave me antacid med...
Said it was acid reflux.
That came first.
Then the nausea.
Then the attack.
Then the Er.
Then NO MORE GALL BLADDER.
GO GET A ULTRA SOUND. Mine started out like acid reflux wich I never had in MY LIFE!!
GO GO GO GO to the hospital!! ULTRASOUND!!!
Stop infusing. That is what I wish I would have done.

My biggest point was the great LLMD was totally wrong..
I had all the same symptoms as you explained..the whole heart thing and they totally thought it was acid.
I knew it was the gallbladder...I was wavering like you.
Can't hurt to get it checked..plus you might save yourself alot and I do mean ALOT of pain.
Good Luck J

Rocephin is notorious for "gall bladder sludge".
That being said, not sure sludge shows up on an ultrasound,
But it would be a good idea to get one.
I had my gall bladder out years ago due to stones.
It started with pains high up in my abdomen. Almost like the worst
Case of indigestion. Progressed to radiate around to my back.
I was diagnosed with the stomach flu.
Went off to get married. Ended up getting my gall bladder out about 1 week
After the wedding ceremony.
Stay away from spicy or fatty foods and see if this helps.
Hope you feel better soon.
Hugs,
Geneal

I'm having abdominal pain too, and I have been given acid blockers by primary and another doc suggested pepto. Luckily I am going for a HIDA scan to check gallbladder function soon. I know it's not acid for me. Good luck.

Monica,
Are you on Actigall? Most LLMD's give that with Rocephin since it is so hard on the gallbladder. Not that it would do you any good if you are having an attack.
I was just wondering. My dd gets horrible pains on her upper right side. If we do castor oil packs it helps the pain.
She has had Rocephin, but not for over a year and she was on actigall, (not that it always works) but I think hers might be liver pain.
I am not a doctor but the liver hurts in that area too. If you want to try the castor oil pack you get castor oil, soak a square piece of flanel type cloth in it, put it in the micro wave and heat it as hot as you can stand it without it burning you, put it over the painful area, put a piece of saran wrap or a plastic bag over it with a hand towel over that, then put a hot water bottle or heating pad on top of that.
It sure does help my dd.
If it keeps hurting take the advice of the ones without gallbladders and get to the hospital!!!
