Hi again everyone,

My 1 year old Dylan had a recent ear infection. He was put on Amoxicilian for 10 days.

During those 10 days, his Lymph node behind his ear went WAY down, and his face cleared up!

Now he's been off the abx for about 1 week now, and the lymph node is swollen again and the face is all broken out again.

I still feel in my heart that it's Lyme still lingering in his system. Dr. J (in CT) really has felt that Dylan was fine. (Recap - Dylan had a tick at 9 months, developed the EM rash and was treated with 24 days of amox - nothing else).

I'm going to fax his office my new concerns tomorrow, but I'm wondering what I should do if he again feels that Dylan is ok?

Again, I do NOT think he's ok. Something in my gut is telling me this is still Lyme that won't go away, and I dont want to let it linger for the long run.

Should I insist on more amoxicilian for Dylan? Please help a very nervous mama.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it!!

If abx improved the lymph node swelling and it is getting worse again off abx then it sure seems like he has some kind of infection.

I'm not a doctor but I would want further abx treatment if it is clearing up the lymph node and the problem comes back off abx. Unless of course there is some rational explanation that shows why abx would cause the lymph node to go down despite lack of infection.

If you get a no from Dr. J., try to get some very specific reasoning from his office about why this kind of empirical evidence would not show that your son needs abx.

For what it's worth, my lymph nodes seem to respond to abx too. Sometimes they go down and other times they swell up. I use red root tincture to keep them cleared. I'm not suggesting you do that for your son since I don't know about pediatric treatment for this type of thing.

If it were my child...yes, I'd seek further treatment.

Hope things go well for you both!! [Smile]

Did he have baby acne? My son had that. You said his face cleared up, what was wrong with it?

Is that a sign of Lyme in kids?

Thank you everyone. I will be faxing Dr. J's office now, and I'll let you know what they say.

And my son didn't necessarily have baby acne - he would have a minor breakout here and there before the tick, but has gotten worse after the tick bite!

Ok, so I talked to Dr. J's office and they are going to put him back on Amoxicillin for 30 days. Dosage: 200mg twice per day.

Does this sound like the correct dosage for an 18 month old who is 29 pounds?

Thanks!

I would trust Dr J's dosages completely. He's a wonderful doc!

Thank you. And when I picked up the prescription I noticed that there is 1 refill, so he will be on the Amox for 60 days!

Do you think that his chances are good of being "cured"????

swollen lymph nodes could be bart too. but the amox is good for that anyway.

the big question is how long to treat. no one really knows for sure. good rule of thumb is 2 months after symptoms go away

I would say Dr. Jones knows what he is doing he was my doctor for the first year of me being re-diagnosed with Lyme and he was very helpful. Be sure to voice your concern and I believe he will get better! Keep up a positive attitude and I think he will be okay [Smile] Best of luck to both of you and you're in my thoughts.
