Is it safe to take Doxy and Flagyl together?

You know...

My LLMD just told me to take Mino and Avelox together...(same idea...two abx from the two families). One time she told me NOT to take the Mino with Levaquin for another infection...so I became skeptical about this being a good idea.

I'm not feeling great about it, so I haven't done it.

I'm sure someone here has done it...even so I am hesitant.

I sure hope so...I've been pulsing this combo for five months now.

My neighbor did 10 months of it.

We take doxy on Mon - Thurs. Flagyl on Fri, Sat and Sun.

However, my neighbor took two doxy again on Sunday night.

BTW, Flagyl ER is a lot easier to take than generic.

However, much more expensive.

Hugs,

Geneal

I'm taking the two together now and have been for the past two weeks. Also taking Rifampin twice a day. So far no problems here.

nancy -- mino and avelox are not in the same family....mino is a tetracycline and avelox is a quinolone, newer generation. so you should be ok there?

patrick--doxy, flagyl, and rifampin....what bug are you after?

Absolutely NOT. The two, or anything from the Tetracycline family shuld never be taken together. I question the wisdom of the Dr. who even pulses the Flagyl, as the drug stays in the body for three plus days.

Simply Google your question and see the results.

Dr. B also discussed this in his 2005 Diagnostic Guidelines...which I do not think your Dr. Has read.

This is a perfect example of a Dr. saying he or she is Lyme Literate, and actually has no idea.

PLEASE CHECK THINGS OUT FOR YOURSELF BEFORE YOU ARE HARMED!!!!

Peace, Love and Wellness,
JRW

Patrick,

I think your reply to JR was a little uncalled for. Maybe before you call someone out you should check out the reference they are quoting from.

Dr. B 2005 Guidelines state - "Because there is laboratory evidence that tetracyclines may inhibit the effects of Flagyl, this class of medication should not be used in the these two and three drug regimes"

Taking them together may not cause you any ill effects, but if taking doxy makes flagyl ineffective why bother taking it?

Edit - Since Patrick's post is not longer here, the first part of this post makes may not make any sense.
