Hello everyone, my lovely kitty bite me 2 days ago and my arm is swollen and I feel really icky and my spleen is full and hurting. I read that clindamycin is good for this if you are allergic to Penn. which I am. Can anyone tell me if there is another abx I could use that I might have here on hand? Or any experience with this. Thanks mimi

Hi Mimi, For the most part, we are not doctors here. Please go to your doctor and be evaluated.
You could have been infected with bart from your cat. I'm not sure but MRSA could also be a possibility or staph or any other number of nasty infections. You don't want to waste time getting the proper treatment.

oh dear. My cat bit me and the EXACT same thing happened. You need to get abx right away. I waited 3 days and the ER dr told me if I waited longer, the bacteria could have invaded my heart The name of the bacteria is Pasteurella. Check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasteurella
They gave me 10 days of Clavulin. It was nasty but I got better.

possibly bart, but bart would not cause swelling

Mimi,
Go to an urgent care center today if you can't get into your doctor. If you take the wrong antibiotic or too low a dose this could be a deadly infection.

Mimi, you need to go to the ER today. You cannot fool around with this cat bite reaction.
The ER doctor will give you abx, but will also tell you to follow up tomorrow with your primary care doctor.
You will need abx longer than the average person that is healthy and gets an infection from a cat scratch or bite. Much longer.

hi mimi.
Cat bites are nasty!
I have to tell you that a lot of cat bites require IV antibiotics! You may also need a Tetanus shot.
A good antibiotic for cat bites is Augmentin! Obviously a doctor knows best. Also is your cat up to date on his Rabies vaccine???
I am a vet tech so I have seen a fair share of cat bites.

I had a cat bite a few months ago.
Was already on doxy for Lyme...this covers a cat bite.
I was sent to the ER anyways.
IV Levaquin with a Rx for augmentin on top of the doxy.
