My last surgery was 4 months pre dx - so i didnt know I had Lyme and my results following were horrific!!!!!!!!!!! I seriously thought about suing my surgeon, certain he had messed up big time! Seems it wasnt really his fault after all!

OOPPSS!!

My son just had surgery. The biggest concern we had was not what the surgeon was going to do as much as anesthesia.

If they are using general anesthesia they sometimes will use a steroid to avoid post op nausea. So we requested another med instead of steroids.

If it is a local then obviously that would not be a problem. Then you just want to have yourself healthy as possible.

And don't be shy or afraid to speak up about people washing their hands! Everyone assumes health personnel know better. Well they may know better but lots don't.

Good luck,
Karen

welcome Kris to the board.

pms are found on left side under HELLO by flashing light and in my profile!

I just sent you by private message my lengthy newbie package of info. copy it into your wordprocessor MSWORD, use EDIT, FIND,

type in elective surgery for fibromyalgia,CFS patients

I know it's in there somewhere! I used it last year for my hip surgery.

fyi, I've had 12-14 surgeries; every one had complications!! last one 3-06 for hip surgery I told them NOT to use steroids. I ended up with blood clot that I found.

good luck.

Thank you for responding. Those who had surgery and took meds ahead of time, how long before the surgery did you start the meds???? Thanks so much!!

I had bleeding complications following my surgery and felt like I was dying. It could just be that I mowed my lawn afterwards, too, because I'd learned not to rely on anybody.

I've had 2 surgeries since Lyme diag.

I did not have abx before either surgery.

I had IV abx after both surgeries.

After the first surgery, I herxed the 2nd day.

Mostly had hot flashes every 5 min. all day and

night. Brain fog for about 3 days.

After the second surgery, the only herx symptom

I had was night sweats. I was drenched by

morning. This lasted for about a week. Oh, and

I also got phelbitus (spelling?) in the wrist that

had the IV in it for the surgery. Other than

that, I had no other problems.

I had my wisdom teeth out without getting any worse, although

surgery does cause many to do that. I guess the only thing

I'd advise you to do is make sure they

don't give you any steroids (one of the foremost Lyme experts

actually

employs the term "steroid disaster") or ketamine.
