I am taking higher doses of artemisia as prescribed by my llmd. I am starting to feel pressure on my ears. Not pain but definite pressure. Has any one experienced this and if so did you continue at the high doses or back it down?

I never experienced it. My LLMD recommended 200mg twice per day, I wouldn't use more than that personally. Take care.

My LLMD has me on 2400mg/day in divided doses (3x 400mg capsules twice a day) but pulsing it, 5 days on and 5 days off. Or he said I could do 7 days on and 3 weeks off.
It can be hard on the liver and has been reported to have neurologic side effects. I would follow what your LLMd says to do, or at least let them know what you're doing, if they aren't aware.

psano2 - what exactly is it you take ?
Artemesia whole / raw herb? Extract ? And what is the second name to the artemesia if it is one of these? there are different types.
or Artemisinin? and that dosage, is that just for the artemesia (whatever form it is) or it is a total combination formula ?
Sorry to sound picky, but depending upon the species and type of it, the dose can be quite different.
As I understand it, the research that questions neurological effects was conducted solely on lab animals (by Toovey, who is pretty much alone in his views on this). Other, observational studies with hundred of people in VietNam a few years ago showed no problem with short term tx for malaria.
Might you have a link or something else regarding what you heard about neurological stuff ? I am very interested and would like to read more. I have scoured PubMed on this for years.
One explanation for those who may have neurological reactions is that Artemisinin is processed through the Cytochrome P-450 liver detox pathway, so excess porphyrins could build up, and that could contribute to neurological symptoms in those who have trouble with detoxing - or who might have a genetic predisposition to any of the porphryrias.
It's hard to know what level of pressure you are talking about.
Is there pain, or vertigo ? (Rhetorical question.)
I deal with some major ear stuff, so I would err on the side of caution and call your doctor if the pressure is great - if you are gluten, dairy, corn and soy free,
(Gluten, dairy, corn or soy can cause phlegm accumulation in the ears. Any one of those can cause increase in pressure as can weather changes.)
Hope this works out okay.

Thank you for the responses. At this point there is only a pressure or fullness on the ears but it seems as if it will become painful if I continue. My llmd has me taking Zhang's artemisiae which is 400mg total per capsule but that also includes some astralgus, so I am not sure how much of pure artemisia is in each capsule.
He has me taking 12 capsules per day (divided into 3 doses of 4) for three weeks. He says I can take a break if I need to. I have decided to take a break this week and then go from there.

My LLMD pulses 1200 mg/day 4 days on, 3 days off. And get your liver enzymes checked regularly.
