Just got our IgeneX test results back and a new CD57 test from LabCorp for my Wife. I have also already seen the Western Blot band breakdown. Based on what I can conclude is that Lyme is a YES and co-infections are a NO. All feedback is much appreciated as I really don't understand much of the results after the WB results.

Here are the results...

CD57
132. This is up from 112 (August 2007).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
IGG WB - According to Igenex = POSITIVE, CDC = NEGATIVE

30 kDa (+)
**39 kDa (+)
**41 kDa (++)
58 kDa (+)

All other bands were negative.
--------------------------------------------------------------
IGM WB - According to Igenex = NEGATIVE, CDC = NEGATIVE

28 kDa (+)
**31 kDa (IND)
**41 kDa (IND)

All other bands were negative.
--------------------------------------------------------------
IFA, B Burgdorferi G/M/A - <1:40 Titer = NEGATIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------
Lyme Multiplex PCR

Genomic - B burgdorferi = NEGATIVE
Plasmid - B burgdorferi = NEGATIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------
B. Microti Antibody G/M

B. microti, IgM - <1:20 Titer = NEGATIVE
B. microti, IgG - <1:40 Titer = NEGATIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------
HME Panel (monocytic)

Human Monocytic IgM - <1:20 Titer = NEGATIVE
Human Monocytic IgG - <1:40 Titer = NEGATIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------
HGE Panel (granulocytic)

Human Granulocytic IgM - <1:20 Titer = NEGATIVE
Human Granulocytic IgG - <1:40 Titer = NEGATIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------
B. Henselae Antibody G/M

B. henselae IgM - <1.20 Titer = NEGATIVE
B. henselae IgG - <1.40 Titer = NEGATIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------
Babesia Fish (RNA) = NEGATIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------

looks to me (I'm no doctor, just going off my own experience, having done these tests) that Lyme is positive, it's likely that it's a longer term exposure (band 31 is a longer-term exposure band), and that Lyme is not too much of a problem considering the relatively high CD57.

Although not all docs consider this a relevant marker.

Co-infections tests are all negative, but that doesn't mean a whole lot, considering there are many strains of babesia and bartonella (they can only test for 1 or 2 strains; I think there are more than 20 of each). You need to find someone who will treat the patient and the symptoms, not the test results.

What do you mean specifically by "Lyme is not too much of a problem" because my wife has been feeling like total crap for over 2 years now.?

We specifically requested the Igenx test after our Dr. "clinically" diagnosed her with Lyme. We just needed something that could possibly provide better confirmation and I like we got that today. Would you agree?

Thanks for all your input.

Dear Jason,

Go to the top in Medical and open Dr. C's WB explanation posted by Lymetoo.

That should help you "figure" out the WB.

You could do a 28-30 antibiotic challenge and retest.

However, bottom line is Lyme is a clinical diagnosis.

In my opinion, her tests are definitely indicative of Lyme.

I wouldn't read too much into the CD57.

However, sometimes a high CD57 with a very sick patient can indicate or suggest

A co-infection. Remember, normal levels of CD57 are around 260 and up.

This number too can rise and fall.

Don't interpret it as a marker on how sick you are.

You can search CD57 here on the board.

Not many LLMD's use this as a "marker" anymore.

My LLMD was thrilled when mine was 100. (After 10 months of treatment).

I have no idea what I initially presented with.

I discussed the CD57 with him based on info I had gleaned here.

He admitted that it isn't an exact science....nor an indication of how well you are.

He added that he uses it with a grain of salt as we really don't have

Anything else at this point to "judge" progress other than symptom free.

I should add I was diagnosed by a local duck with one Lyme specific band.(Quest)

My LLMD felt no need to repeat the test.

Hugs,

Geneal

General,

Thanks for your response. I should have added to my original post that our Dr. "diagnosed" her with Lyme based pretty much on a 112 CD57 and all her symptoms. This was after seeing this Dr. many times over a 10 month period. Based on everything I had read on the boards I could agree with the Dr. but just wanted that one extra piece of confirmation with a better Lyme test. That's what I hope I have before me.

I just got the results faxed to me yesterday so we have not discussed them with my Dr.

All input is very much appreciated!

Jason

Hi Jason

The tests for these diseases are
Very Inaccurate and perty much useless -

I saw the Lyme Bullseye on my leg -

My tests were not as positive as yours-

These diseases are to be DX by symptoms -

Dont put much faith in tests --Jay--

Jason~ It does look like lyme is a definite possibility for your wife. (Bless you for helping her). May I suggest you also get her tested for viruses? Do some reading at www.hhv-6foundation.org. Read the links and the patients forums.

You can't tell the difference between a lyme infection and a viral infection by symptoms. The treatments are different. She may need to be treated for both.

Best,
Timaca
