I am on zith/mepron for babesia now and was wondering if zith. is effective for bart at all? i think i read (but I could be wrong- lol) that it is used to treat bart. in children.

the reason I ask is that i don't know whether or not i have bart. but since on this combo. i have more neurological symptoms (burning skin) and more joint pain (mostly in knees) and now floaters and very dry eyes (maybe just coincidence since i know these eye symptoms are common even without lyme and co.).

I was wondering maybe if it is targeting bart. if i have it.

years ago i had lots of pelvic/bladder symptoms that seem common with bart. but that all went away long before my lyme diagnosis.

i do get numbness/tingling/vibrations, which i know can be lyme or bart. it is all so confusing!

does bactrim treat bart? the reason i ask is that if i have it i will not take cipro/levaquin, so need other options.

is there a way to treat babesia and bart at the same time- right now only on mepron/zith.

my doctor seems to only ever prescribe one abx. at a time. before this on biaxin/plaquenil for 8 months, almost a year into treatment now.

thanks, maureen

You can treat babs and bart at the same time. I have heard that some folks do Levaquin + Mepron + macrolide (Zith). Perhaps Sixgoofykids or someone else who has done it will come along here. It seems that many LLMDs are starting to do this.

My LLMD will only do it with certain combos.

I have not heard that Zith is effective alone in adults for treating bart. Most LLMDs use a combo against bart these days.

After 5 months on Mepron+Biaxin I added Bactrim to adress Bart.

Unfortunately I had to stop because my white blood cell got very low as a side effect from the bactrim but I know it was working I felt the best since getting ill.

Soon after stopping the bactrim a lot of what seemed bart symptoms came out, overwelming fatigue, sore feet, low grade fever,ecc..

My Llmd thought that the bactim may have awakened the bartonella.

My new bart+babs regimen has been malarone+art+minocin+rifampin

I am on zith and bactrim for babs/bart after a course of rifampin/doxy.
My LLMD said the zith was for the bart, the bactrim for the babs (which I still don't get and hope someone will enlighten me).
Who knows?? Very confusing, but whatever, I feel BETTER!
Good luck

thanks for the responses. i thought i read that zith. is effective for bart. in kids?

they can't use levaquin and cipro for kids under 18, so what do they use for bart?

if it is effective for kids, wouldn't it have some effect for adults?
