What on earth is going on?? For the last four days I have been experiencing a terribly stiff, sore and painful neck only on the left side. The pain shoots into my ear, eye and back down to the shoulder. Anyone have any idea what is going on???? It feels like I slept on a wood floor with no pillow- very painful and stiff. I cannot turn my head when driving. It gets worse as it gets later in the day. help!!!!!!!!

When this happens to me it's either trigger points or inflammation or both. Did you just start a new medication?

One of my first few symptoms was this horrible stiff neck that limited my neck range of motion.

Hi imhsda,

Me too. I also had a partly locked shoulder. I got very good myofascial trigger point therapy (I had my severe hypothyroidism treated at optimum--very important or trigger points come back.)

Then atlas orthogonal chiropractic treatment for C1 and C2 (hint: is one leg shorter than the other? Lyme muscle atrophy caused the problem.)

Then Lyme treatment.

It's improved by a whole lot! I no longer have a locked shoulder. I can actually turn my head, good grief!

You might try EDS (electro dermal screening) if you don't mind alternative diagnostics. I think it was about 250 to get an assessment. An appointment is about 1 to 2 weeks. PM if you're interested and I'll send you the details.

Stiff necks were my biggest problem for years before I knew I had Lyme. I still battle with them all the time but manage to ward them off now - between arnica and my massage chair [Smile] and other things.

I carry the arnica montana gel and the internal pills in my bag with me at all times for when I feel the twinge start to come on. Once it escalades it can be very difficult to get rid of.

My doctors used to think I had meningitis - I would constantly be in a neck brace and no muscle relaxants would help or anything.

So, what I am saying it that it is a big part of Lyme for some people.

Also, sometimes before I get a cold or flu the stiff neck starts again now. So make sure you're not getting sick and keep your neck warm.

I know they are horrible! I hope it feels better soon.

Neck and shoulder pain are one of my worst symptoms. I get relief from weekly PT, visiting a chiro once a month or so, using a home traction unit, and best of all, exercising in a warm, salt-water pool.

For me, the stiff neck was the first symptom of LD. Then when I thought I was free and clear of the nasty buggers and I went off the meds, BAM - 6 days after stopping abx I got the stiff neck again.
